Could we get Ohtani. The trick might be taking Rendon.
If X is gone could put Rendon at 2B and Story SS
or if cant get Dever to sign could use Devers as the centrepiece.
Either way it gives the Sox there Ace and fills the power void.
Obviuosly it would be nice to have him signed ahead of the trade.

Yup. The Texas Rangers weren't going to trade A-Rod either. They made him captain. Read my lips. No new taxes.

The Angels just forfeited a pick for signing Tyler freaking Anderson. Why would they do that if they had any intentions of moving Ohtani this offseason

I feel like the Angels would block Chaim’s number if this was their offer. They’d want every top tier prospect we have — Casas, Bello, Mayer and then some. Even if he was available, he’s not worth trading for one year of control.

The problem with Ohtani is he's effectively a 30/30 player (ok worth more on pitching because he is DH but humor me). He's going to get somewhere between 50-60 million per in free agency and he's easily going to justify it. That's a lot of eggs in one basket, if he ever goes down it's like losing 2-star players at once. He's going to cost a lot of prospects and what is that worth for one year? and I'm worried about the risk of extending him. I'd rather give $30 to a pitcher, and $20 million to a position player than sign one guy.

Would we want effectively 25% of our payroll tied up in one player for a decade? Not sure.

What would we need to give up to obtain Ohtani? If he signs a long-term contract: If he is a rental:

Better off just waiting until offseason when it only costs money.

Better off just waiting until offseason when it only costs money. Exactly. I’m guessing he stays on West Coast. But, if he’s interested. Here’s an angle to work with him. Only pitch once a week. Like Japan. Saturday games only. Why Saturday? He would never pitch after traveling the day before. Rainout? He can pitch on Sunday. You’d get 26 starts a year instead of 30-32. Might keep him on the mound deeper into his contract. 10/550 would be my guess. Live from Fenway Park Shohei Ohtani
