He's put up solid FIPs and xFIPs since 2018, if he can keep that up then seems a solid addition to the bullpen. Only two years so not going to really kill them if he doesn't pan out but hopefully he does.

36 years old doesn't seem like a great number. Hopefully he can last and be worth the contract. I suspect this will probably be the biggest bullpen addition to the off-season.

Great deal if he can replicate his 2022 performance or even something between 2022/2019 seasons.

He's been pretty good for a long time now, and was a monster this last season. They're paying for a couple of 1 WAR seasons, which is maybe a little optimistic but whatever.
Schreiber, Houck and Martin is a strong group of late inning relievers. Barnes, Kelly, Joely Rodriguez, Brasier, Crawford and Taylor is a strong group of middle relief candidates. And then Worcester is full of guys that could join the pen at some point.
I think Martin might be the late inning lefty guy if Taylor/Rodriguez aren't looking strong

Wtf....dude is 36. Why are they spending big on the bullpen? I mean it's a two year deal and they gave him 8.75AAV, wouldn't exactly classify that as "big" spending on the bullpen. He's been a solid arm the last few seasons and they most definitely need some bullpen help.

Wtf....dude is 36. Why are they spending big on the bullpen? Why wouldn't they spend on the bullpen? Needs Starters more. You have enough guys like Wincowski, Crawford, etc...who are cost controlled. You have Barnes, who is highly paid you also have Houck. Tale of two seasons on this guy last year.

Tale of two seasons on this guy last year. And Martin is better and more proven than all those guys you named. He's getting like 7-8mil, that's not going to handcuff the team

Tale of two seasons on this guy last year. And there are still plenty of starters available and they reportedly were very close to signing Eflin a starter a day or two ago so it's not like they're focusing solely on relievers right now.

Dude is 6 foot 8. Maybe he can teach Winckowski how to get some outs as big framed guy with good control working a mediocre fastball/cutter/slider combo.

Right but if the questionable lefties they have don't pan out, he looks like a good bet to do the job. Their other best righties are likely to have platoon issues

I rly don’t care how old a one inning reliever is if he is still sitting 95 Fastball velocity can drop in a heartbeat at that age, unless you're a freak like Verlander or Scherzer.

Can't believe we haven't had any Coldplay puns yet. Not a pun, but every time I hear the name Chris Martin, I think of this clip and I think to myself in Ricky's exasperated tone: "I don't believe it, it's only Chris Martin from Coldplay." I do like the signing as well.

I like Martin, he's good and has been consistent for a long time. We've seen old guys do well in the pen here before. Maybe he found something real with the Dodgers. He doesn't walk guys which will bring me much joy out of the bullpen this season. I was guessing they would spend $10M on relievers so I will now guess that they are done there (other than minimum/minor league deals to try guys in camp).

Kind of on the outer edge of what I'd want to pay for a reliever, but he does have some crazy stats: 0.80 BB/9 last season, 1.22 for his career.
I assume they're done on the bullpen, barring something minor, which leaves ~$66 million for SS, RF/DH, and SP.

If Martin can maintain his stuff, he's probably the best closer candidate on the roster. So that's the good news on this signing.
