Yeah, that was the right call. Single and an error.

Some buzzard luck early reminds me to call Ben Cherrington and tell him to go trade 3 pr 4 top prospects for a young dominant offensive player who he can control for 3 or more years. That and I think Mayor Menino needs just one more drink.

Who's that young dominant offensive player that is available that you want to trade for?
Can we please start playing Carp versus right handed pitching?

Can we please start playing Carp versus right handed pitching? The outfield range of carp has its downside though as demonstrated on that bloop single.

I'm liking, no, I'm loving how many outs we're giving away on the bases.
Edit: morons

Really gutless baserunning in that inning.

Ugh. Nothing worse than running into outs. We need to cut down on that. Some of it is Farrell's fault, but the players also bear some of the responsibility.

Farrell really needs to change his attitude to base running. Aggressive is fine as long as you are not running into outs. Once he changes his attitude, the player's will stop making (so many) stupid decisions.

Who's that young dominant offensive player that is available that you want to trade for? Can we please start playing Carp versus right handed pitching? Not young. But, can probably catch 3 more years. Joe Mauer. Makes us a playoff team. I know it's a gamble on our part. 23M for 5 years after this year. Papi will be done by then, and maybe Napoli loves Fenway and we keep him. Slide him to DH and Mauer to 1b at that point.

Webster's pitch count is 11/inning at this point, really efficient. Great start to the game outside of the first two hitters. The yips, maybe? He's really settled down since.

Would have been nice to have those couple runs the Red Sox idiotically turned into outs.

I love Joe Mauer too but not sure I would trade any three or four prospects for him unless Minn ate a ton of contract. Stanton - take any three prospects you like. Maybe any four as long as you leave behind one of Barnes or Webster (i.e. you can one but not both). Elite, young offensive players like Stanton as rare as number 1 pitchers. And they play in more games than pitchers.

Rough sequence for Webster in the 5th. Still love what he's done so far. Seems like he has a ton of confidence with all of his pitches

Stanton would be nice, but I wouldn't give up the package it'd take to get him right now. Think Webster, Bogaerts + 2 other good prospects. Mauer, I like as well, but I don't want to give up top level talent and take on that contract. He's a great hitter and works pitchers, but that's it. He's not a power hitter and his defensive value is questionable all things considered.

The Red Sox have left at least three runs on the board. Could come back to bite them.

Salty is dreadful. That is fall But he hits HOMERS!!! Really liking this start from Webster outside of the HR's. He's going to be an asset in the rotation for years to come. Still, wasn't worth giving up Nick Punto for him.

Great hustle by Nava to get to 2nd safely there. Seriously, is there anything not to like about him? What's always held him back was lack of power and fielding. Now he has improved as a fielder in LF, and added flexibility in RF and 1B. Granted, his range in RF is iffy, to put it nicely, but man has Nava boosted his value greatly. Now he's added some power to his repertoire to go along with an excellent OBP. I know he's in the midst of one of his hot streaks, but while it lasts, Nava should be starting against ALL RHP's, and most LHP's (at least until Gomes cuts down on K's and starts hitting).
I know some people will continue to view Nava as a situation guy, but has there been anyone in recent memory who continuously exceeded expectations and improved on any weaknesses? Danny Nava is, by far, my favorite player on this team. I can't believe this guy cleared waivers last season without being picked up by a single team (even Houston).
ADD: Another terrible AB by Saltalamacchia in a clutch situation.
