Red Sox better be willing to pay up. I don't have high expectations for the 2024 Red Sox, but I do have high expectations for Triston Casas and if healthy I anticipate he'll reach expectations. He's the real deal and I'm glad the Sox never entertained serious thoughts of trading him.

That "kid" talks like a professional, someone with a clear understanding of where he is and where he wants to be. I believe he'll get there. The team should put together an investment fund to tap for the payout when he gets to that level.

The team should put together an investment fund to tap for the payout when he gets to that level. The real smooth move would be to give that fund to the Pirates or Reds, and get them to pay half his salary so the luxury tax hit isn't as bad.

That's all fair and makes sense but I do wonder what is his value? If his defense doesn't improve then he's probably a DH which obviously hurts his value. I do fully believe in his bat though, he should be one of the best hitters in the game for quite a while.

If that's his benchmark, we're probably in 8 yrs./$110M territory. ($35M to buy out the five pre-FA years, plus 3 x $25M) Casas is probably my favorite player on the team and in the last 2/3 of the 2023 season, he was amazing; but that's a huge commitment for someone with a short track record of excellent offense and shaky defense.

I think it's perfectly fine to wait - if he has a monster season, give him the bag. If he doesn't, maybe he'll be more willing to take something smaller. But to me, once he's proven that he is on that level (one full season), then don't worry too much about the value - just lock him in. This guy has team leader and team chemistry written all over him. There's value there that won't show up in the stats.

Every time I see the title of this thread all I can think is, "I don't know. I've never seen a Triston Casas extension before."

I don't think it ever happens. Based on how he's talked about it, I think he betts on himself and waits for free agency.
