Wong has twice as many hits as Yoshida and Casas combined. Makes you think.

My comment was the spark to his flame On a more serious note, Valdez has shown a very good eye this spring. Would love to steal a long term 2B out of he or Lugo.

Fun game to watch! (so far) Encouraging outing from Kluber, good power from Casas (on a poor pitch) and Dalbec, fun to see all of the interesting minor leaguers, many of them new or newish, great to see Allen and Lugo and Hamilton and Valdez and Abreu and Fitzgerald and even Palka.

Nice bomb from Valdez (another lefty on lefty assault)! Right after DOB called him Juan Soto sarcastically too

The dude Valdez took deep had a 1.7 WHIP in a full season of AA last year.
Casas's victim seems a little more polished (ranked #76 by Baseball Prospectus last winter) but still only 21 IP in AA.
Nice to see them go yard vs LHP though...

Not directing this at any specific poster.
I’m thrilled baseball games are being played even if they don’t count. I welcome the over-analysis and parsing of every at bat, every swing and every ball and strike thrown. I don’t care how much spring training stats are meaningless. I don’t care how weak any lineup is for away games. It’s fantastic to be reading and consuming information about the 2023 team. Gimme five paragraphs on a stolen base by some non-roster invitee that I’ve barely heard of. Baseball is back and it’s glorious.

No TV for this game?
Wyatt Mills had a nice outing it looked like. I have some irrational optimism his stuff will take a jump like Schreiber.

Early still but I wonder if either of Duran or Dalbec might have a good enough spring to merit a decent lottery ticket in a trade. They’re probably both in a position where the Red Sox are better off with them in AAA, but they would be best off with a full time role on an MLB team somewhere. Because of their value as depth and upside yet poor MLB performance I doubt this happens for either of them, though.

We’re going to need Duran at some point this season. I feel the same about Bobby. Those are 2 depth pieces that both are in a make it or break it kind of year. I think that holds well for us.

I agree they probably stick around as depth, but barring injuries there isn't really a clear path to Dalbec earning PT (unless his positional versatility expands), and the same is true of Duran to a slightly lesser extent (if Duran can play center and hits well he could fit as a platoon with Duvall but those are both big ifs).

I do NOT appreciate the hand full of commenters who look for the negative in EVERY comment or situation! -a Red Sox player hits a HR (oh the opposing pitcher was not very good) -the Red Sox just signed Turner (oh he is too old) -Yoshida hit the shit out of the ball in Japan (oh his D is bad) -Duvall is a good outfielder (he doesn’t hit as well playing in CF) The half empty crowd is like tailgaters…they simply can’t help themselves…. Please try!

Ah, I stand corrected! This is great to hear. If he can get to those pitches more often, his light-tower power to right will play out. That does mean adjustments since the natural response from the pitching fraternity would be to bust him inside. But adjustments - by pitchers and hitters - is what the game is all about. I'm eager to see how this all unfolds. Ahhh…it must be March when everyone is excited about Bobby Dalbec. It’s a better predictor of Spring than Punxsutawney Phil himself.

I'm semi-excited. The springtime hits keep coming, but so do the Ks. The only times he's been able to really shine is when he's cut those down. And this year there's serious competition if he hopes to make it onto the 26 man.

If Mondesi is as close as they are hinting, Dalbec has pretty much zero chance.
