The reason I like what I'm seeing from Duran is because he actually LOOKS much better swinging and clearly retooled his swing.
Dalbec I buy less of , he usually does this in ST and to my knowledge hasnt really retooled his swing.

That is not true. Dalbec had a sensational run towards the end of 2021. And it wasn't a couple of weeks it was about a 1/3 of a season. My theory on him is he can't be platooned. Not to say the splits are not real but he seems to do best when he's playing every day. Dalbec has never had a good 1/3 of a season. He’s had in his career two times in which he was a titan for about 100 plate appearances and other that that he’s hit like backup middle infielder on a bad treat. Why exaggerate this? He was basically Mike Trout over 148 PAs, from 7/29-9/21/2021. That is indeed just about a third of a season.
And earlier that season he had a solid stretch of 78 PAs (6/10-7/22) with a 130 wRC+. So from June 10th on he basically had two cold weeks, in late July and at the end of the season, and even with those included he had a 139 wRC+.
I'm not saying he's not Will Middlebrooks, but you went out of your way to contradict a factual statement.

Duran has 325 MLB plate appearances. Dalbec has 898 MLB plate appearances.
Spot the difference ?

Either Dalbec is terribly inconsistent (with fewer highs than lows) or pitchers have adjusted to him and he hasn't adjusted back. He seems to over-think things at the plate and he talks about it way too much with the media, so I think it's probably the latter.
Ultimately, he has huge L/R splits and even pretty big home/away splits for his career, including a career 85 wRC+ vs. RHP and 64 wRC+ vs. RHP last year. Maybe some look at that and say "stop platooning him," but not me.
Duran is much earlier on his career arc, so maybe the adjustments he's made will allow him to hit big league pitching better. We basically won't know until Patriots Day or even Mothers Day.
Of course, if it works, it's only a matter of time before pitchers try something else and he'll need to adjust to that... and so on... and so on.... Hitting is hard.

I see where this is going... 100+100 = 200 which is easily 1/3 of a 550-600 PA season.

As encouraged as I am about Duran and Dalbec (I admit the most I am hoping for is part of a trade), I am more encouraged by Mata, Murphy and Walter, all of whom, will likely see time in Boston this year.

Hmm I though I had figured that out correctly before but I must have misremembered it. You are right and I was wrong.

To be honest I wasn't sure, I didn't look and was relying only on memory. I remain convinced as soon as another team picks him up he will become a guy who hits .220 to .250 with 45-50 HR for a period of three or four years. The reason I think that is I'm a Red Sox fan and most of us live in a constant state of worry and gloom apparently because that has somehow become a genetic trait introduced into DNA when the Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Not to mention it seems like the Sox have always getting screwed. The Sox buy three all stars from Charlie Finley and MLB steps in and voids the deal. Red Sox due some minor sign "stealing" (study video in the clubhouse) and they get hit with a harsh out of line punishment. Yankees are guilty of some sort of sign stealing violation and it's completely swept under the rug. And so on.

Ah, I stand corrected! This is great to hear. If he can get to those pitches more often, his light-tower power to right will play out. That does mean adjustments since the natural response from the pitching fraternity would be to bust him inside. But adjustments - by pitchers and hitters - is what the game is all about. I'm eager to see how this all unfolds.

Cam Boozer's nickname should be House, because he's the size of one and hell he could build one. Cam Bruiser

Even if he's merely a meh MLB hitter (with the swing-and-miss issues offsetting his power), Dalbec might have enough defensive versatility to stick around as a backup for years. 1B/3B is a good start, and I suspect he can add LF and RF with a bit of practice.

Sure but who are you going to cut from the 26 man ? Alfaro and Fitzy have more valuable versatility.

Yu Chang and Duran have to be the favorites for last two spots on the bench if Mondesi is out. I could maybe see Dalbec, Tapia, or Allen getting the nod over Duran depending on how the spring plays out, but the latter two have 40-man issues also and Dalbec is a little more redundant than Duran I think.

Ehh Alfaro has a little bit of versatility ( played a little 1st base, played LF I think a couple times) , but he's an abomination at every position, but DH. Fitzy isn't making the roster... If he couldn't break through last season when this team was desperately in need of warm bodies (infield and outfield) he isn't going to break camp with the big club unless he hits .500 with power. Dalbec is almost guaranteed a spot even if it's just to increase his trade value, unless he gets traded before then.

Alfaro isn't much of a hitter, I don't see any point in ever having him on the roster unless he's one of the two catchers

i will keep wishing on Bobby because.....well.....the Bombs.
i am rooting for them because they have both worked so hard and endured failures. And the Sox have invested a lot in them.
They don't have to be All-Stars, just would love to see them produce for us.
