3/30-4/2 Red Sox vs. Orioles Series Thread

It is hard to conceive of this being the 56th year of my Red Sox fandom. I don't feel that old (most days). Earliest memories - listening to games on AM radio from Pawtucket, RI in bed, having the game fade in and out. Sitting with my two granddads and watching games - seeing Santiago, Wyatt, Lonborg, Lyles and all pitch, Joe Foy, Tartabull, Andrews, Rico, Reggie and Yaz hit. Broken heart at what Julian Javier did in game 7. That's all 56 years ago. Now here we are, a set of recent championships, some really stinky seasons - yet, hope, the Red Sox - and Baseball! I'll be out working in my garden with the game playing over my Pixel phone. I don't go back that far, but it's the one constant one in my life. Two wives, a number of jobs, several states of residence (RI, Ct., Maine, back to Ct.) But through it all, there's the Red Sox. Same here. The one constant is the Red Sox. This is my 44th season of fandom. There's no holiday as special to me as Opening Day. I've always felt lost when I'm away from baseball for whatever reason. It's just a part of me. Always and forever.

Since then there has only been one season when I never saw or listened to any Red Sox games, because I was out of the country the whole year. It was 2004.

For me, one wife, two daughters, a 25 year pretty miserable career in big pharma, 2 books, living in RI, NH, WA, PA and NC, 4,000 different tomatoes in my garden- BUT - yes, the Red Sox! We are all really lucky!

It's weird, people complain about high ticket prices, then dunk on the team when tickets are cheap... Go to the game man, get off the internet and see the game in person I have to be honest: if I lived in Boston, I’d be less likely to go to a game this season than any in recent memory, with one exception… if Bello is pitching. I just don’t really care much about this roster. Now… it is not unlikely that will change. Yoshida might be must-watch etc etc. Then I bet I and the buying public in general will change our tunes.

We are all really lucky! Baseball has always been a constant in my life from early on; you could say it’s my true home, my north star that always sets me back on the right path. Even when the Sox stink, they are still a part of the fabric of my day when there is a game. It’s a few hours where you let go of your other apprehensions and return to your childhood. Baseball keeps you young at heart while the rest of the world tries to cremate you.

Yoshida being good is going to go a long, long way towards determining what the "cool" factor of this team is. If he's good, and the Sox are healthy, I think they'll get a lot of positive pub as Bloom's vision coming to form (for better or for worse), and I think Yoshida will kind of being the centerpiece of that. The WBC certainly didn't hurt his case. Given that he is 1. Awesome and 2. Wearing my favorite number, the number of games he needs to be good in order for me to pull the trigger on some merch is astonishingly low

After spending most of April in warm southern states ( leaving Maine tomorrow), I'll be likely to go to more Sox and Sea Dogs games than any season ever. 1st summer of retirement, ten minute drive from home to the Downeaster train station. 30 min drive to Hadlock. More time on my hands than ever before !! I'll be thrilled if tickets are available a week or so ahead of game day all season.
For now though, a Sox game that counts is coming on NESN in less than 30 minutes. Oh Yeah Baby !!!

All this talk about not wanting to go to games, I'll say for me personally living in New York I cannot wait until the Red Sox finally come in June and I definitely can't wait until I get a chance to go up to Fenway for a game this summer. No place on Earth like Fenway Park and there's always someone or something in a game that I'd be thrilled to look for.

And to build on my last post some MLB things I personally can't wait to watch this season:
- The young guys: Casas, Bello, Whitlock - to a lesser extent Wong, Crawford, Winckowski (and later Mata, Walter, Valdez, etc.) - The comebackers: Sale, Hernandez, and later Story - The new guys: Yoshida most of all, but Turner, Kluber, Mondesi, Duvall, Jansen, Martin to various lesser extents

No where on Earth like Fenway Park and there's always someone or something in a game that I'd be thrilled to look for. Even when the team stinks it's still worth it to go to a game, just for the atmosphere. I live too far away now to get to many games at Fenway, but Fluor field is only an hour away so I go there a lot during the summer.

I'm planning see at least one game when the Sox are in Milwaukee a few weeks from now. (Probably one for the little kids to play the Brewers' great in-park kid activities and one for me to actually see any baseball whatsoever.) Hopefully they're riding high after a strong start to the season!

A good rendition of the anthem is always a good omen for Opening Day!

Nope. It's a tad colder and windier at Gillette in December. But when the Pats are good you can't get a seat. I didn't say empty stadium. I'll be going to a game myself in two weeks. But the days of a banged-out Fenway every night with tickets selling way above FV are gone, at least for now. And not wanting to use a vacation day is now a reason people don't go to Red Sox OD at Fenway? I've gotten emails nearly every day the last two weeks or so pushing ticket sales. I even got a phone call from a rep asking me whether I was interested in packages of various games. That didn't used to happen. The power was with the seller. Now it's with the buyer. Weird, the final home game at Gillette was nearly empty last season, and you expect it to be cold in the winter, there's also 8 home games in football, not 81. And yes, vacation days are precious, not and for most people, sparce. “Vacation days” are a weak excuse. If the team is compelling, people would be tripping over themselves to check out at lunch and hit the bars on Landsdowne Street for the Opener. This team just doesn’t have much marketability to it. I know Devers is the star of the team, but I’m not sure I’ve ever heard him speak before. That’s an issue. Marketability(and likability) matter. This team just has no identity(yet). People are obviously focusing their attention elsewhere.

they used to offer the first week or so for free, if you wan to check the app. Maybe something has changed, I got the Sox only price, i think. Havent seen the bill yet, they might pull some shady stuff and give me all teams. LOL. They like to grab the cash while they can.

NESN stat boy jinxed Kluber by citing his low BB%. 6/7 pitches for balls since
