Even if we don’t make the playoffs this team shows a ton of heart. More importantly we need some prospects to advance but if we can hang around until the starting middle infield comes back we can for sure sneak in.

It should be obvious to posters how the well thought out depth is playing out. When your toughest question is which talent that's performing you have to shelve, you've done something right. Tomase still thinks the team has no depth and that Bloom did a very poor job of roster construction ... Someone actually publishes his fantasies.

I would legitimately give Chang 800 AB’s to see if he’s good or not
Kinda hilarious his 3 outs were his 3 best hit balls. Baseball!

Yoshida certainly had himself an inning. The funny thing is I dont remember Nomar or Ortiz doing it. But I do remember Burks doing it against Cleveland. And no I dont remember Bill Regan doing it in 1928, lol.
Hopefully that's his coming out party.
I like what I've been seeing lately, but I'll take the team more seriously as a contender if they start handling Toronto, TB, and NYY better.
While 12-11 is respectable I remember thinking the Sox found their way last year when they were 43-32 which is a lot better than 12-11. And then they went south against their division mates.
The weird thing is you're better off in first even if you're sub .500 than in last despite being over .500 because if four teams finish ahead of them in the division there's no playoffs. The ALC 1st place team could theoretically finish under .500 and still make the playoffs, even though they're not a better team and it isnt fair, but that's the rules.
That said I dont expect Cleveland to be under .500, and to get somewhere the Sox will have to hold their own against their division mates and we haven't seen Toronto or NYY. So far so good against Baltimore. Not so much against Tampa, but if they do hold their own I'll start to take their candidacy for a playoff spot more seriously.
I hope they continue on the right track. They played a solid series against a good Mikeaukee team.

Beltre moving the on deck circle is hysterical. It makes me wonder if there are rules governing where the on deck circle has to be. I'd assume it must be at least some minimum distance from any part of the field but in the case of Beltre it does not look like he's moving it closer just the opposite. Of course umpires are as thin skinned as Governors so I'm sure he was tossed for "showing up the ump" but I wonder if after that the team simply decided to move the on deck circle or if it could be shifted around between at bats depending on the preference of the batter. It would only be possible with the rug type on deck circle as the old school chalk circle could not be moved.

Still way too early to make conclusions, good or bad, on small samples sizes - which is where we are. It is separating emotions from the game, with a more measured assessment of what we are seeing.
As one who made the "79 win" assessment, I can say I am hopeful. That's what I'll hang my hat on as the season proceeds.

Yoshida back to having a positive WAR (0.1) and Kiké no longer negative (0.0). Funny thing I noticed while checking this is that Valdez has a negative WAR (-0.1) from his one game despite having a 186 wRC+ in it because he compiled -2 OAA.

Pitch modeling thinks Bello was good yesterday.
Schreiber has graded out as a monster his last several appearances

I went to the game on Saturday night with my 5- and 7-year-old. They had a great time, though we missed catching a ball tossed at the end of one of the half-inning warmups because one of them dropped a hat and the ball came directly at us at the exact moment I bent over to help him get it (guy behind us snagged it and gave it to his teenager).
Great series from the team and seeing Raffy hit a home run in person was spectacular (the sound off his bat is crazy), but my biggest takeaway is that the pitch clock is the best thing to happen to baseball since the invention of the hot dog. The pace was just terrific, and I even had both kids tucked in only an hour after their usual bedtime thanks to the 6:10 local start time.

He actually tweeted something positive for once that i had to check for flying pigs Why? If the Red Sox play like crap or are mediocre they deserve to be criticized. If the Red Sox play well like they did in Milwaukee they deserve to be complemented. Not everything always has to be a bouquet of roses toward the team nor does everything always have to be a dagger at the team. Their play dictates what treatment they get, how they get written about. I don't think writers need to be their press agents not do they need to pull a Skip Bayless 24-7 either.
