Isaac Coffey is currently third in the South Atlantic League in strikeouts, with both the players in front of him having an extra start versus him. He's third in K/9 as well. However, the K/BB rate of the two guys in front of him are 2.60 and 3.40, while Coffey is at 15. He's second in the league in WHIP and 11th in average against. However, he also leads the league with 7 home runs allowed in only 20.2 innings. If he could keep the ball in the park, he'd be having a season to rival Drohan's to start. He also completely skipped Low-A, which is kind of cool. All that said, I can't get excited about a guy with a high 80s-low 90s fastball at least until AA. We'll see what happens in the second half of the season, but it's been a pretty cool statistical start for him.

Yeah, I don't want to be a negative guy because he's had a great start, but he screams guy who we answer constant questions about "why isn't he ranked higher? " (not that you're doing this) until he gets to AA or AAA and gets creamed. His average FB velo is 88.8 so far, second-lowest in the system for guys with 6 IP as of 5/1, and the shape is pretty middling (it neither sinks nor has ride). He's doing a great job getting ahead of guys but it feels like a house of cards built on an arm angle guys haven't seen before at that level. He's in the next 10 outside the top 60, but he's screaming for a regression.

What if Fan Duel had another who is getting promoted each Red Sox affiliate? That would be cool. Getting odds to bet. I know the other kid was first but it would be cool for each league.

Looks like the same basic schedule as last year for the FCL team, with Wednesday and Sunday off days and Friday/Saturday always against the Twins (one home one away). Last game scheduled before playoffs looks like Tuesday 8/22.

Seems like it would involve parsing what counts as a "promotion" which isn't something that I'm guessing the gambling folks are interested in getting into. Like last year, Jordan DiValerio was assigned to Salem, pitched in one game in which allowed four runs in an inning, and then went up to Greenville the following day based on roster needs. Obviously not a promotion, but try telling that to someone who took 200 to 1 that he'd be promoted first.

There's also a lag time between the promotion and when it gets broken (usually) as opposed to a game or a draft pick with a definitive, live result. So like, to use Chase Meidroth as an example, he could get told he's getting a promotion on a Tuesday night but the news doesn't come out until Wednesday. Well what's stopping the Meidroth family from placing a huge bet on him Tuesday night after they get the news but before the book can catch it? There's just no great way to regulate that type of activity.

He's had stretches of being a serviceable major league reliever, there are certainly worse depth options out there.

Liu pitching 6 shutout for Portland, crazy we’ve had 3 Taiwanese position players but no pitchers yet! (Unless I’m forgetting someone lol)

Eduardo Lopez is on fire. Since starting the year 2-19 (.105) with 9 Ks (47%), he has gone 14-31 (.452) with 8 Ks (26%). 3 for 3 with another home run tonight. Up to .320 on the year.

One of the more interesting points of discussion in promotion talk to me that hasn't been discussed yet between Meidroth, Drohan, etc. is when the Sox decide to cut bait with some of the relief pitcher filler depth in Worcester and bump up the Fernandez/Guerrero/Denlinger group and treat them as guys that could potentially contribute at the big league level later this year. Maybe they won't be deemed ready for that at all this year and the higher floor/lower ceiling will be more useful to the Sox right now. But all three of those guys have flashed thus far this year to different extents.

Maybe they won't be deemed ready for that at all this year and the higher floor/lower ceiling will be more useful to the Sox right now. But all three of those guys have flashed thus far this year to different extents. Maybe this feels like a circular answer, but it's probably when they feel confident that they're able to contribute at the big league level more than those who they'd be replacing. The whole reason to have a stable of relievers at Triple-A is that they don't really become a long-term roster concern. They can call up a Jake Faria, know that he's something resembling a replacement-level player who won't kill them during a temporary stay, and then DFA him without any particular long-term consequences. Fernandez, Denlinger, and Guerrero are all not yet on the 40-man, so they're not going to be called on until they're reasonably sure they can contribute as up-and-down guys at the very least. It's especially the case with Denlinger and Guerrero, who aren't Rule 5 eligible until after 2024 - calling one of them up eats up a roster spot that could go to someone else. Is the value of 10 innings of Denlinger worth having to expose Wikelman Gonzalez to the Rule 5 draft? Probably not, unless he's developed to the point where they think he can really excel in high leverage situations. So unless one of those two really forces the issue, I don't think you'll see them this year. Fernandez will probably be in Triple-A by midseason at the latest and getting a shot in the majors in September if he stays healthy and on course.
