Per Matt Eddy of BA, Oscar Perez will convert from catcher to righthanded pitcher; Mike Meyers will convert from second base to the outfield; and Manny Rivera will lower his arm slot after converting to a full-time reliever last year.

Makes sense to see if he can make it w/ his arm. Meyers: At the lower levels, there's a lot more room in the outfield than up the middle. Rivera: Logical last-ditch effort for a fringy LHP trying to make it. Has worked in the past (Hottovy).

Perez and Rivera are absolutely Red Sox SOP for players not cutting it at C and SP/standard RP, respectively. Meyers was playing LF when I was at XST a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was because of Rondon ahead of him, but apparently not. I wonder whether he has enough bat for the OF.

Isn't he a speedy guy? I would guess CF for him but with Margot down there he may have been deferring.

Sean Coyle back in the lineup. Kyle Zimmer throwing mostly fastballs at 96-97 mph. Garin Cecchini just doubled off the RF wall on a 97 mph fastball.

When will the Kyle Kaminska experiment end? I'd rather see Couch getting the starts.

Nice test for Salem today against Zimmer. I'll be attending Stroup vs. Zimmer tonight. Anything you guys want me to look for? Keep an eye on whether Stroup gets many swings and misses on his fastball. As good as he looked the day I saw him, I realized after that he didn't get all that many swings and misses ... a lot of weak contact, tho.

Cecchini works a BB against Zimmer and then Jacobs doubles to LF for the RBI.

Cecchini vs. Zimmer: Double and two walks, Zimmer pulled after the second BB. Zimmer looked impressive with the FB at 97 mph and the SL at 86 mph. Matty Ott on to replace Stroup.

Cecchini really having a nice start to the season, at .328/.414/.525 going into this game. So far, he's adding the slugging without losing the OBP, exactly what we hoped going into the season.
But, early, SSS, blah, blah.

With the exceptions of Cecchini and Jacobs, Zimmer had his way with Salem over 4.2.
Cecchini/Jacobs: 2/2, 2 2B, 2 BB Other 7 guys: 1/15, 2 BB, 11 K

Stroup was 93-95 with the FB but he got more swings and misses with his off speed stuff. Weak contact on the FB.

cmf, Kyle Stroup allowed 9 hits. Was he hit hard or just unlucky?
