It's a safe bet that the WooSox game will be slightly delayed.

Cutter Coffey with HR #3 of the year. He's been much better of late.

Cutter Coffey with HR #3 of the year. He's been much better of late. I think he’s been my biggest positive surprise this year.

Perales: 5.2IP 3H 2ER 1BB 6K. Only real mistake was giving up the two-run HR in the 3rd.

I gotta believe we see Rafaela in AAA sooner rather than later no? He's up over 500 ABs in AA between last 2 years, he's been on fire in June with an over .900 OPS. Would seem to me he's pushing for that promotion pretty hard right now with his play.

I was thinking the same, and was thinking they might go ahead and just pull the trigger on the promotion this week given the Worcester depth problems. Usually you don't promote a guy like that to fill a roster hole, but he's on schedule for a promotion anyway you might just go ahead with it a couple weeks early.
One concern: if you look closely, his strikeout and walk numbers have remained pretty bad and he's getting quite a bit of BABIP luck. Some of the 2022 power seems to have come back, but if he's in Double-A primarily to work on approach stuff, I can see them still wanting him to get that sorted out more.

True only 9 BB and Obviously youd like to see better than that but at this point gotta wonder if that's just the hitter he is and by tweaking it too much you put him at a disadvantage. Might just be a grip and rip it hitter.

Would seem to me he's pushing for that promotion pretty hard right now with his play. It must be concern about his disastrously bad defensive play that is holding him back. But seriously, I assume he hasn't moved up yet because of his nagging plate discipline issues. His power is down a bit from last season, but his BB/K numbers for the season are almost identical to 2022 in AA. Is there any indication that things have changed recently?

Using numbers since May 19 when he seemed to turn a corner....
G 29 BA .330 OBP .357 SLG .548 OPS .905
BB% 4.7% K% 18.1%
How many batters with an ISO of .218 have an 18.1 K% ? Why on Earth would anyone want him to walk more ? Seriously, think people...
Please Raafaela, don't listen to posters, just continue your selective aggressiveness. Keep listening to your coaches, they know far more. You have the hands and bat speed to handle it just fine.

Some guys you can really screw up if you try and tinker with their approach at the plate. With his elite defense you can live with him not walking so long as he's hitting for a bit of power and not striking out all the time. I think in his prime he looks something like the Hernandez we saw in 2021 with a higher BA and lower OBP. Something like a .270/.310/.460 slash line with gold glove caliber defense. Worst case scenario he's probably something like dodgers Hernandez who was a super sub but a really good one.

In 2021, the following players had an Iso over .210 and a K% under 20% in at least 200 PA:
Ryan Fitzgerald (POR/WOR) .246 Iso, 19.7% K, 9% BB Stephen Scott (SAL/GRE) . 223 Iso, 18.5% K, 14.7% BB Devlin Granberg (GRE/POR) .218 Iso, 17.8% K, 5.8% BB Ronaldo Hernandez (POR/WOR) .218 Iso, 19.9% K, 3.1% BB Joe Davis (SAL/GRE) .212 Iso, 18.0%K, 6.1% BB
None of those players are anything close to the defensive player that Rafaela is (though Fitzgerald is no slouch), which is why Rafaela is a top-100 prospect and they are not. But I don't think the high-Iso/low-K rate alone is a necessary harbinger of success.
Nobody hit both marks in 2022, but Matthew Lugo does if I drop the Iso threshold to .209. He's obviously someone who is really struggling with that adjustment to the next level.
And, of course, turned the corner has meant more consistency with the power but not necessarily the strikeouts. If we set the arbitrary endpoint to June 7, covering his last 14 games, he's striking out at 24.6%, which is worse than his season numbers. His K rate peaked (bottomed out? was best? you all know what mean) in the stretch from 5/21 to 6/7, when he whiffed just six times in 61 plate appearances and he was genuinely outstanding. He looked like the best player on the planet in that series in Somerset.
The question wasn't what advice I would give him, it was why he's still in Double-A. I'm not his hitting coach, I'm just answering ematz's question of why he might still be in Double-A. We saw what happened in the last decade when an outstanding defensive center fielder with playable power and sometimes questionable swing decisions was rushed to the majors for no good reason in 2013, and he was kind of a mess for a couple years. It is good that they've been patient and not remade the Jackie Bradley mistake. They're different players in a lot of ways (Bradley sometimes erred on the side of being overly passive, he's a better center fieler, he obviously wasn't also helping in the infield), but I still think Bradley is the guideline here. The seasons he hits .250 he's helping your team, the ones he hits .270 he's something close to a star, and in the seasons he's hitting .230 then you get frustrated until you watch him play defense.
I also thought there was a good chance he was going to get promoted to Worcester this past Tuesday. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The point isn't that he needs to raise his walk rate. The point is that he needs to minimize getting himself out on pitches he can't do anything with. He's never going to walk a lot.
