Now I need the baby Sox (Portland Sea Dogs) to stump Alek Manoah in his rehab start tonight and it'll be a very beautiful day.

Foreshadow to the new closer after a Kenley trade?? I know you are kidding, but I’d feel just as good with Martin closing as Kenley. I feel even better with Martin than Kenley, tbh

Steal one. Don’t get embarrassed in the other two. I’m an idiot.

The Red Sox are a combined 12-1 against the Yankees and Blue Jays this year.
Screw it - trade for Montgomery and another reliever and let’s roll. YOLO

Assuming the Cardinals hold on today could be a really good day if the Angels and Astros also lose (down in the second and tied in the 8th respectively), a chance to pick up a game on the four teams directly ahead of them for playoff positioning.

I actually wasn’t literally counting days. I don’t recall *not* hearing rosy talk. Being told things are much better than my eyes are telling me — when a team is 120-126 since opening day last year… seems far more factually dubious than what I wrote. Or go back to 2020, 236-232. That is pretty consistent. About .500 for 4 years. About .500 for 2 years. About .500 this year. Fans are optimistic about the future. More at 11. By the way, .500 is not exactly a scarlet letter. It doesn’t take a lot to turn a .500 team into a playoff team, which explains some of the optimism. While that team could’ve very easily won the World Series, almost that whole team was inherited from Dombrowski. And a lot of the younger guys stepping up are still Dombrowski guys. Bloom had a tough job but letting all the talent go without getting anything back (not talking about the Mookie deal, that was actually very defensible) was the last straw for a lot of folks here. I’m optimistic about the future if Bloom doesn’t sell off the farm (which I doubt he’d even be allowed to do now) but unfortunately this team has too many injuries. Its still a fun team to me though due to guys like Bello and Duran. The players are still playing hard. I have tickets for next Saturday as well as three more games and still really looking forward to it.

This season has a very 1974 vibe to it - more due to injury than 1974 was, but this team really doesn't have it. I hope they don't waste time and resources at the end of the month trying to chase a playoff spot that just isn't realistic.

Not only Jaques first career save (as a 28 y/o rookie!), and not just his first career save opportunity, but the first time in his career he had pitched with a lead of less than 12 runs.

Holding 2020 against Bloom while simultaneously pretending the near-WS run in 2021 didn't happen (or counts for almost nothing) will never not be weird to me.
Anyway, awesome sweep.

What is Whit Merrifield doing on the team?

So they've already won the season series with the Blue Jays. Potential playoff implications there...

Clearly Judge is not going to be able to play, perhaps Verdugo gets named as his replacement?

What is Whit Merrifield doing on the team? He seems to break brains. Dave O'Brien didn't miss an opportunity all series to talk about what a "good hitter" and a "tough out" he is, despite his having a 92 wRC+ since the start of 2021, and only a 102 for his career. He's a bit of a modern-day Eckstein I guess.

Strange Season. Csnt beat a NL team at home but they can find a way to beat tough teams like Toronto and New York. Hard to believe they're 7-0 against the Jays after being 3-16 last year.
Great to see Dursm seize the leadoff spot.
Big HR by Verdugo who should be an all star. Maybe the Judge injury gets him onto the roster?
Great win but costly. Hard to stay afloat when you only have 3 starters and a beat up overworked bullpen.
