Signed to a big league contract, per Speier.

Big league contract meaning he has guaranteed money? He cleared waivers this week on a minor league deal, that doesn't make sense.

just mash and we’ll forget about the rest
Surprised they did this. Figured they would’ve given him a chance earlier this season if they had any intention of using him as a catcher. Caleb Hamilton’s bat is truly that bad.

Man, the pool of competent catchers in baseball is thin right now.

Jorge Alfaro has a 34.2% K rate in the Major Leagues. Caleb Hamilton had a career 65.5% K rate in MLB. Of 23 career at bats to this point, 19 had been strikeouts (29 PA's).

Wong is the guy so doesn’t matter who’s backing him up. I’d rather have Alfaro over Hamilton though. At least Alfaro has shown he can hit at the MLB level. Hamilton is a mediocre AAA guy, Nevermind MLB.

I'm happy. Maybe working with Tek everday can improve his defense.

Alfaro is not good defensively, so he'll fit right in. But at least he's not an automatic out like Caleb Hanulton is.

Alfaro brings some pop off the bench, it will be interesting to see if Cora will occasionally risk burning his backup catch in an obvious pinch hitting spot.

I'm in and out and have lots of other responsibilities, so I'm not well connected with what is going on right now. What happened to McGuire, and how long is he out?
And yeah, major league quality catching always seems to be thin.

McGuire hurt his oblique on a swing. Cora said yesterday that he's going to be out for a while still

I'm happy. Maybe working with Tek everday can improve his defense. People have been trying to get him to improve his defense for years. But in the end they dump him. Signing him now makes sense as soon as McGuire is good enough to go then Alfaro will get DFA'd again. Unless Wong gets hurt in the meantime.
