Soo....as far as I can tell, we never had a Connor Wong thread when he was still prospect eligible. I might be a little late in starting one now but wanted a home for this nice analysis on his success in controlling the run game this year:

Weird thing so far:
.250/.300/.457 vs RHP .167/.262/.259 vs LHP
.250/.321/.531 vs LHP in 2022 across all levels

1st game of the year with Mcguire behind the plate 5 SB, Wong last 2 Innings 0 SB. Game 2 Mcguire 5 SB. Game 3 Wong 0 SB. Game 4 Wong 0 SB. Game 5 McGuire 2 SB. This is when I wanted Wong to get more starts.

Even with his struggles with the bat I’m still happy with him as our everyday. Also, he’s still a rookie in his first full season so I’ll give him time to adjust to the big leagues and everyday rigours of catching

Wong currently has a WAR of 2.2 (I assume after today’s performance it’ll creep up) with about a month left.
Christian Vazquez career high WAR is 2.2.
Wong contract has him locked up thru his prime years.
Wouldn’t be shocked if eventually we talk about him as the main asset back in the verdugo/downs package.

Not sure about other folks but I already consider him the main asset. Verdugo has had his moments, but having stability behind the plate is so crucial. I’ve been really happy with Wong this season, and really glad to have him as the catcher of the future

So he sort of has to be the centerpiece now.

Getting Wong moves the Mookie trade from total disaster to merely pretty bad
