Harold, Dan Plesac and Greg Amsinger on MLB Tonight are the best team in broadcasting. These old guys can't handle Harold. 1st post u refered to what Reynolds brings to anything he talks/hosts at mlb channel: Clueless. Came to the conclusion years ago he was not there for what he could talk about which might be of interest to viewers, nor anything requiring knowledge. Yeah they also seemed to love every draft pick on MLB Network. That seemed unusual to me compared to NBA where they hate the picks a lot of the time.

This system is slowly starting to get very interesting again.

Reading up on Teel and Zanatello they both appear to be high character. Makes it easy to cheer for both of them.
I have seen a few Zanatello references to Mookie in terms of athleticism. Very intriguing.

Two years ago the best player available at #4 also became arguably the position of greatest need when Xander subsequently left the organization.
Yesterday the best player available at #14 happened to coincide with the position of greatest need in the organization once again.
Nice when that happens -- drafting without regret.

I was just thinking about that. How often do you hear "draft the best player available, don't draft out of need"? It was great to see them draft the best player available who also happened to fill a position of need within the organization. It's great when those two things align. Now may they get that fortunate next year when they're picking 20 something and a potential ace pitcher falls into their laps, hopefully with better results than Jay Groom, lol.

So Seattle got pick 29 because Julio won ROY and was on opening day roster? Surely the Sox can stumble into one of those with current upper minors crop, right? That seems real nice Doesn’t this bonus pick incentive feel a little like social engineering on the part of the MLB? What other desired outcomes might they want to reward in the future?

I would have to imagine Bello could have given us a pick next year if he was considered a rookie this year. Kind of makes you think that the Sox should of held him back last year, which in effect....would of done the opposite of what those extra picks are supposed to incentivize.

For the Keith Law fans, he loved the Sox picks.
"I love Boston’s two picks – a safe college position player who has some ceiling because of the bat (Kyle Teel), and then one of the most electric, high-upside high school position players (Nazzan Zanetello)"

I don’t hate it tbh I do hate competitive balance picks, those clubs should stop being broke bums. League shouldn’t be rewarding that.

I don’t hate it tbh I do hate competitive balance picks, those clubs should stop being broke bums. League shouldn’t be rewarding that. Overall I don't hate the extra PPI picks however I do dislike how it's calculated. This year if Yoshida had made enough of the pre-season top 100 lists the Sox could have gotten an extra pick for him if he wins ROY but to me I feel like guys like Yoshida who are older and have played pro ball at Japan's highest level shouldn't be included. Next year whoever signs that Yamamoto P from Japan is going to have a great shot at the pick because he seems guaranteed to be in all the top 100 prospect lists to me even though I don't feel that guys like that should be classified a prospect. I also think it's stupid that the players have to be on the top 100 lists, seems to me the rule should really just be if player A is a rookie and breaks camp with the team and wins ROY you get a pick. Don't get why they take into account arbitrary lists from baseball writers as a qualifier to if a player can get you the pick. Competitive balance picks are stupid as all heck if you ask me, 100 percent agree on that.

I'm pretty sure it's a written rule that you can't do it without permission. You'll take our offer, or we'll jam it down your sproat Since the Mets had to get his permission, I'm sure that permission came with conditions acceptable to his agent.

I was just getting out my Sproat puns. I wanted the Sox to take him so I could use my "Most famous Sproat Goat since Nancy Reagan" tweet

Yeah. With the competitive balance picks, some of these cities are actually bigger than Boston. I also hate that the Twins moved up in both the lottery and got a comp pick. Its just rewarding mediocrity. That franchise is just a pain and seems to just hoard prospects and never does anything with it, especially because they’re super stingy in trade talks. The Pirates are the same way.
