If things go at the same pace as they went last year, the 14th pick should be around 8:30pm and the 50th pick will be around 11:15pm.

Couple of things to remember as the picks come in.
Don’t freak out if you don’t like the 1st rounder. Everyone had a cow when the Sox picked Nick Yorke and that worked out pretty well.
The teams have different boards than the media. MLB, Baseball America, and Perfect Game have great lists but they’re not what the teams go by. A guy could be 75th on MLB’s list and the Sox could see him as a top 20 guy.
You don’t always get your best guy in the first round. Let the draft go and fully come into picture before you start judging it. The Sox went under slot on Mikey Romero and that let them get Roman Anthony in 2022. They did the same in 2020 when going under on Nick Yorke let them get Blaze Jordan.
The Sox have been pretty good at this drafting thing the last few years. Hits on pretty much every first rounder (Yorke, Mayer, Romero), but also getting guys later in the draft. Drohan (5th), Hickey (5th), Dobbins (8th), Brannon (9th), I. Coffey (10th), Troye (12th), Guerrero (17th), Sikes (18th) have all made some sort of impact being Day 2-3 draft picks in the last couple of years.
I saw a tweet about this one and haven’t really looked into it, but this is supposed to be a really good and deep draft especially on the college level, thanks to COVID. A lot of the guys that elected not to go into the draft out of high school in 2020 due to the shortened 5 round COVID draft are becoming eligible for drafting for the first time since then. Makes it a deeper and better college draft than normal. Not sure about the validity on that one though.

Who are you hoping we draft?
I would prefer a higher upside hs player such as Eldridge, Mitchell, White, Meyer or Nimmala.
If it must be college maybe Shaw or Dollander.
Thanks.

My prediction is... (quickly googling mock drafts for the first time all year...) Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee. I have a hunch it'll be a college pitcher anyways.

I am hoping for the same name myself Since this is Pearson's first draft. Does he try to make a splash by trying to outthink other teams (Yorke)? Or does he play it safer (Houck)? Personally, I think as a 29 year old I think he goes the "safe" route with a college pitcher.

Young for their class HS hitters who based on big boards, could go underslot Round 1/Overslot Round 2/3: Eric Bitonti, Tai Peete, Colt Emerson, Adrian Santana, Antonio Anderson, George Lombard, Nazzan Zanetello, Myles Naylor, Roch Cholawsky
My dream is to get two of these
And then Arjun Nimmala would be a chalk pick at 14 with a rumored big price.

I have no idea who they'll draft, but I have a weird feeling you could be right about this. They've taken a bunch of SS. I think they're long overdue for a pitcher.

I’ll guess Tommy Troy in the first round; hit tool, age advanced enough to get him on the same trajectory with others in the pipeline already.

One trend to consider…since the draft reduced in size to 20 rounds in 2021, the Red Sox have done very little overslot spending on Day 3. There was no Day 3 overslot spending in 2022, and only $125,000 of Day 3 overslot spending in 2021 (Kavadas). Compare that to 2019 -- $770,000 in overslot spending (Cellucci, Loubier, Simas, and Blalock), 2018 -- $588,000 overslot (Northcut, Machamer, and Howlett), and so on. This makes sense. Prior to 2020 when the draft was 40 rounds, you could draft a number of Day 3 overslot options with a variety of contingency plans. Now, you need to have a firm plan for that overslot spending that you can trust while maybe using ~2 picks on Day 3 as overslot contingency. So as a result, we’ve seen the overslot spending shifting primarily to Day 2 and spread among fewer players – Hickey in 2021, Anthony and Brannon in 2022. That trend is likely to continue this year and beyond with a 20 round draft.

Callis putting Peete’s name in the mix at 14
I have manifested this and it will become true

Makes it a deeper and better college draft than normal. Not sure about the validity on that one though. I thought exactly this back in 2020, I’m sure many of us did, it makes sense. I’m not sure what advantage it can provide as every other team has access to these players as well. Perhaps having two extra 4th rounders instead of 2 2’s is less detrimental because college players have less leverage than high schoolers.

Fascinating that Callis/Mayo/Law all seem to have Langford at 1 now. They going underslot with him like they did Davis and spreading those savings around? I thought they did a pretty damn good job a couple years ago

Won't report my entire board but sticking with my guns and hoping for a college bat at 14, would love for Jacob Gonzalez to fall but one of Shaw/Troy would make me really happy as well. Moving Brayden Taylor up to #4 on that list but would also live with any of Wilson/Bradfield/Wilken. Would also happily accept a high school bat across different slot levels, would rather they not go with Dollander or Waldrep. Aidan Smith is my guy at 50, though as long they come out of this draft with ~3 upside high school bats a la Romero, Anthony, Brannon, I'll be more than happy.
On vacation (near Seattle, coincidentally) so may not be super locked in but am immensely excited to get some new talent into the system and will likely be popping in and out with my thoughts!
