I'd be happy with 2 of Houck, Mitchell, Eldridge, White, Lowder, Peete, Nimmala after day 1. Barring some bizarre scenario where someone like Crews falls to us.

Why are people on this board are so down on Bradfield? Not that I’m a supporter, I don’t know the player, just curious as to the rationale. Doesn’t impact the ball enough imo small detail: also does not have the arm to play “2nd cf” in Fenway’s RF. (the optimistic take on him = Kenny Lofton)

hoping for Shaw or Troy
thinking it will be Emerson or Houck
With Bradfield, he seems to have a similar skill set as Rafaela with top speed and elite defense. (only less power potential). I know the saying to not draft for need, but when a player has such defined skill set, I would think it should be considered.

I'm heading down to Lumen Field shortly to check out the pre-draft festivities. My final prediction at #14 is probably the guy who most people had originally linked the Sox to...Kevin McGonigle. Matt Shaw seems like the other real possibility. It does feel like a year without a clear BPA guy at #14 thus making the underslot strategy more attactive. McGonigle should fit the bill and his profile screams Red Sox over the past few years. All that said, this feels like a year with 50 other guys in play. I don't recall the board feeling this wide open after the first 5 picks or so. I'm mostly prepared to be surprised, and the Red Sox have done a fine job drafting the past few years, so I'll generally just be excited about whoever the Red Sox are excited about at #14 barring a giant surprise. Look for the guy with the Manny Ramirez jersey charging the stage at pick #14!

If you're an Indiana high school athlete and can't dunk it's a red flag.

My prediction: there'll be a player that has been mocked for a long time as going before 14 who'll be available there, the Red Sox won't pick him, and commenters are going to be momentarily extremely displeased.
Jacob Gonzalez, Arjun Nimmala, or Chase Dollander all seem like potential candidates.

I'll throw in a sleeper at #50, of course because he is from Maine and MLB.com has him at #56. Hunter Owen LSP from Vanderbilt and South Portland Maine. Big kid, 6"6" 261 lbs. This was his first season as a starter and he stepped up very well. Only issue was tired arm caused him to miss some starts down the stretch, so whoever drafts him will need to be thoughtful about building up his innings to a starter level. 2.4bb/10.7K per 9 innings.

Kevin McGonigle is a player that seems to have dropped in mock drafts recently. The only ding seems to be his age relative to other high school players. He could be an under-slot option also with a demographic that the Red Sox has historically liked. (middle infielder with hit tool)

I'll go with Colt Emerson at #14, and Alex Mooney at #50 for my guesses tonight.
Really looking forward to this draft.

I'll come out in support of Bradfield.
For one, if he ended up like Rafaela, that would be a success for a 14th pick.
But he's also faster.
His swing is atrocious but I think he shows natural hitting ability. Otherwise he wouldn't have hit at all in college because his swing is horrible.
Remake his swing, see what happens. He brings a few things you can't teach.
OTOH there are guys who I like more with similar profiles like Santana and Peete.

I don't know anything about Miller other than those videos, but that seems like a perfect pick.
To have a high end 3B prospect to replace Devers in 4-5 years, while he moves to DH seems like a great outcome for the Sox long-term.
You don't draft for need and draft for that reason, but all things being equal (if all the other prospects are close in value), that's where I'd want to go.

I know nothing about him besides this video, but his swing looks slow to me. From those side views, just seems like the bat is slow through the zone. Maybe it's just me.

Aiden Miller: -was widely considered the best pure hitter on the HS circuit last summer -won the HS Home Run Derby last year at the All Star Game -plays 3B but profiles as a corner OF too -one of the older HS players -stock has fallen a bit because he's been injured all year (hamate injury)

The problem is that Rafaela's hit tool makes him a flawed prospect and Bradfield's hit tool is worse with less power. His best case scenario may be to end up like Rafaela.

Rumors of Rhett Lowder falling due to an elbow injury With a fringy fastball already that scares me. I’m hoping for one of Nimmala, Shaw, Eldridge, Miller, Schanuel, Peete, Wilson, Emerson, or McGonigle. But excited for it all regardless.

I think going about a 1.0 - 1.2 under slot is the best way to approach the draft, unless something crazy happens. If you combine the slot value for the first three picks, the total comes out to $7,207,900 (without even factoring in 5% overage). If they go about a million underslot at #14, they could go
#14 - 3.1 Million Value #50 - 3.1 Million Value #83 - 1.0 Million Value
They can potentially get two players with a value of around pick 24 with their first two picks instead of a 4.8 million dollar player.
