I know it’s not the case but in my head in the draft room they were thinking they needed another backup prep guy and someone said “screw it, let’s take the guy with the coolest name”

You don't think that Phoenix will get the call? Callabasas HS coach is married to my niece… according to him, Sox are offering above slot $$ for Phoenix and he is not as committed to UCLA as thought. There is hope he does sign Calabasas is my “local HS”. And yes. For those who dont know Calabasas CA is the Beverly hills of the SFV.

While we have no idea what any of these pitchers will become over the next several years, am I correct that, at this point, there’s not a real prospect in the bunch?
Not trying to disrespect any of these players, it just seems that the Red Sox put all their chips on hitters, and then drafted organizational arms to fill lower minor league rosters, with the hope that one or two of them might turn into something someday.

Not trying to disrespect any of these players, it just seems that the Red Sox put all their chips on hitters, and then drafted organizational arms to fill lower minor league rosters, with the hope that one or two of them might turn into something someday. They are really high on Duffy, it seems, in particular. And as for "is there a real prospect," let's get these guys in the system and see what happens. It's pretty clear that this point that whether it's intentional or just how their valuation works, they get their stud hitters early and trust their pitching development program to work with guys with specific traits they select later on. Just look at the 2021 draft, for example and the lack of rankings after guys people are excited about here like Dobbins, Troye, and Guerrero. Maybe they're not aces but there are only so many of those guys and they're not getting to, say, the 7th round.

Now that the Draft is over, big thank you to Vermontsox and Ramireja for all the work you guys put in. Also thanks to all the posters here especially 1toolplayer, thegoodthebadthesox, mjammz, nomar.. etc etc, you guys make this forum the best place to follow the draft. Thank you for inputs, love you all! THIS! It's why this site is the best prospect site and best source of Red Sox everything on this here interwebs thing. So many great contributors! Sometimes I wonder how so much info gets consolidated here. It's amazing! Appreciate everyone as well and what this site has given me. I've been part of it since 2004 when I didn't really post much, but just enjoyed following. I have learned so much about baseball in general from this site. I had to leave around the 16th round to head to my softball game, usually the highlight of my week as an over the hill geezer, but I had zero fun bc I was missing 16-20 on the board.

My point was guys get picked by best available, if those guys don't get drafted 5 better players do. That's a bad thing for you? There guys are on full scholarships for Baseball, how are they switching sports? They can go to college and then enter draft. Well NBA has two rounds, not 20 and frankly that number seems crazy low, you sure that's right? Look at our top two picks, one over a million, another almost a million. That's a lot of money, plenty of guys are going to take that. Then other guys actually get some real money also. They are only doing this because they have power given the rules! So no major leaguers come after round 5? We know that's not true and again the top guys still get most of the money, not just almost all of it. I have been lurking on this board long enough to know better than to derail this thread arguing with you about something you have no interest in changing your mind about, so I’ll leave it at this post. But if you don’t understand a) how baseball, with the existence of the minor league system, is different from other sports in a draft and development sense and b) why elite amateur athletes with alternatives would begin to specialize in other sports, leading to a long-term talent drain, if they no longer had any leverage to negotiate a signing bonus then I can only conclude that you haven’t thought this through very thoroughly. I understand sports and their economics rather well. The problem with your argument about them picking other sports is that has already happened. Look at Murray with the A's. A slot system with locked in contracts isn't changing anything for the overwhelming majority of players. What you should be arguing is for so called small markets teams to stop being cheap and increasing the total amount spent on draft.

The kid I wanted us to draft ranked 42 by mlb pipeline Cameron Johnson the big lefty from IMG academy in Florida. Was drafted 20th round by the St Louis Cardinals. So the good news is he will be draft eligible in 2 years . He is not signing a 20th round. Lol. Wow I can still wish on this prospect.

In Keith Law's draft chat today, someone asked who he thought had the best day 3. He said Mets, Reds, Orioles, and Boston.
Another person asked for his top hs pick after round 1 and he said Nazzan.

I need to make a correction. Keith didn't answer the part about day 3 picks he liked. The 4 teams he mentioned were his favorite overall drafts.
