20m per year for Paxton would be an insane price to pay. Guy is going to be 35 years old and has never started a full seasons worth of games. It would be $20 mill for 1 year, and if they plan on going over the CBT it doesn’t really matter. If he finishes the year strong it’s a worthwhile gamble, he’s a top of the rotation starting pitcher This isn’t a 4 year deal we are talking about here. This isn’t even a 2 year deal.

Between the ages, injury histories, and statlines, Paxton screams Erik Bedard circa 2011 imo. We were on the receiving end of that at the trade deadline that year, so most of us remember what that looks like. I'd be comfortable with extending a QO (I agree with the sentiment that money won't be - or shouldn't be - much of an issue next year), but I think he's apt to turn into a pumpkin soon. Bedard wasn't awful with the Sox, but that was the last of his decent pitching.

Well, he did make 57 starts from 2018-2019. That's just about two full seasons worth; 324/5 = 64.8. Okay? Sale was like a cy young in 2017 and 2018. The fact is since opening day 2020 until now he has made 18 Starts. And will be 35 soon, not 30 like he was for the 2019 season COVID year + needing TJ after the first start of 2021 will do that to a guy.
