I was wonder if Bello will have an innings limit this year. How do you think the Sox would address it?

He pitched 153.1 innings last year. Why would he have an innings limit?

I could see Cora having a faster hook on Bello and the rest of the rotation when they have a big lead in order to save a few innings here and there, or maybe skip a start if they go on a tear and get some clearance in the WC race, but you have to worry almost as much as about wearing down your relievers. I don't think any starter (Bello included) is on pace to even qualify for the ERA title, so while they might run out of gas in a deep playoff run, at that point you wouldn't shut anybody down.

I'd think 180 innings is what they'd aim for (this year) after 150 innings last year, but a playoff run would completely offset that hope if they made the playoffs.

This is true. FWIW, there only 61 such pitchers in baseball at this point. At some point does the MLB lower the number of innings needed to qualify for an ERA title based on the changes in usage in baseball? Interesting question. Last year, 45 pitchers qualified for the ERA title (162 IP). 1 IP per team game also works out to 6 IP x 27 starts. If you do 5 IP x 27 starts you get 135. That would get you to 80 pitchers. Wouldn't change the ERA title winners though. In 1993, to pick a random year, 87 guys threw 162 innings. That said, if you're MLB, do you want to encourage starters leaving games earlier, leading to more pitching changes?
