This is insane. This company created a "pitching robot" using TrackMan imaging and data to replicate the speed, motion, release point, velocity, spin and shape of MLB pitchers pitches (including lateral movement on the mound). The guest said 14 MLB teams are using it so far and some teams have multiple units (one has five, presumably using some of the in the minors. The guest spoke about some players running as many as 120 pitches from a single pitcher on this thing(!). This is the interview: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-wharton-moneyball-post-game-podcast/id1159695411?i=1000623183512And this is the company and their online demo (scroll down): trajektsports.com/Anyone know if the Sox are one of the 14 teams? Anyone see this tech used live?

Yes, the Sox are one of them. There was an article in the local Philly paper about the Phils using and it mentioned a few others team in particular. One was the Sox.
The context of the Phillies story was the decision not to have Bryce Harper do any rehab games. He said the one time he did a rehab the pitch mix was so far off he didn't think it was helpful. This time around he just used this machine tossing MLB facsimiles and he thought it was better prep than live minor league pitching.
Obviously the Sox think differently with Story. Or they don't let him run the show the way Harper does...

Phils also knew Harper was coming back to DH where as the Sox will want to be able to keep the DH spot fluid and hope to use Story at SS....Story needed reps in the field.

According to the interview, yes. Except this one:

This could be a tremendous evaluation tool, especially if you could get some international players from, say, Japan and Korea to face it before you decide to give them a deal. Ditto (though perhaps with High A pitcher sims) for college and high school high round potential draft candidates.
One way to do the latter would be for the company, TraJekt, to set one up at a combine or the bigger prep showcases and let everyone stand in there as long as they'd like against Low or High A "Pitchers," and even MLB pitchers.

If this does what they say it does teams would be idiots to not use it. To be able to get an idea of a pitcher you have never seen before or if you have trouble picking up a guys release point would make this thing ideal. Lefty on Lefty work the added reps you could get would be great.

Interesting.
A few days ago, I saw a tweet that said Yankee minor leaguers don't take live BP, only machines and actual games. I was thinking that seemed odd.
