The Red Sox need to win 3 of 4 here. A split won't cut it. Hopefully Trevor Story can finally become a useful player this series. He could go 0-16 with 12 K’s this series and he’s still an upgrade on the guy they trotted out there most of the season

Volpe, Peraza and Pereira is a pretty nice crop of young guys that will be up next year for them Peraza hasn't managed better than a 107 wRC+ at AAA over 760 PAs. Pereira I know nothing about but his K rates have been 28-30% since he hit high-A. Volpe may turn out to be good but he's had a bumpy rookie season.
The Yankees are bad and I want them to fail, is basically what I'm saying.

The Jansen nearly blown save was pretty reminiscent of the Kimbrel nearly blown save in game 4 of the 2018 alds. Even hit a batter and had MFY fans celebrating way too early like they did with the Gary Sanchez fly out

They have some decent prospects on the horizon, for sure. I can’t imagine they spend like crazy this Winter. Steinbrenner Jr. Isn’t really the type. He actually wants a salary cap in the next CBA.

We have to win series the rest of this month.
The mariners not only have an insane rotation and a lineup that’s heating up but they finish the month with 9 games against the white Sox, As, and royals
The blue Jays kind of have a cake walk the rest of the season

I love Reyes and I hope I’m wrong in my implication here, but I hope Cora understands the likely true talent level of his new binky

Paxton through July 22 was .278 / .267 (xwOBA / wOBA).
Since then he's .310 / .390 in 4 starts. Despite the 5 HR combined in the Jays and Nats games, his HR / Contact rate is unchanged .062 to .064. His walk rate has actually improved, .068 to .052.
K rate has gone from .368 to .189.
He's had just 2 prior starts on 4 days rest, one bad (May 24 at LAA) , one good (June 24 at CWS), but even in the latter he faced just 16 batters, as they lifted hum after 4.
Early K's will be a good sign. How far they let him go, unknown.

How on earth do you justify playing Story over Turner at DH, especially after yesterday’s game, and against Houston? Wtf

It feels a little early to me to start the "they need to win X of Y" and counting games and that kind of stuff. It's still early enough that each individual game doesn't matter so much. They just need to keep winning games. cant really agree with this totally. Yes, compile wins and don't worry about the total now, but these head to head games with teams we have to overtake for playoff spots should have a greater urgency to the players and fans. Ran into this with Toronto (even with the banked series wins with them up to that point) and it was a loss in the standings we are still making up. Need to play our best games to win games against teams like this as it is, doesn't feel like just another game / series to me.

I'm not sure it's stamina per say, from what I gathered when he talked about it before he came back to the big club, it's recovery time from his arm's perspective. He seemed to indicate that after playing there was some residual soreness he had to work through, which is I guess to be expected when you basically re-learn how to throw a baseball on the fly.

Can’t really comment on the stamina, but I believe they said this would be the last series where this takes place. Once they come back home to play the Dodgers he should be full time at SS.

I love Reyes and I hope I’m wrong in my implication here, but I hope Cora understands the likely true talent level of his new binky I'm of the frame of mind to play Reyes until he gives us a reason not to at this point. Could it all be a mirage a-la Leon? Sure, but you have to ride the wave you get otherwise you just end up treading water. Plus I really love when guys like Reyes get some success. Nava, Mcdonald, Ciraco, etc etc. It's nice to see their commitment to the game rewarded, even if it's only for a brief period of time.

Every win/loss against these guys, Tor and TB is like two games because it's a guarantee 1.0 game win/loss against a team in front of you. Granted, I don't their they're going to catch TB, but anyone in front of them in the WC in a head-to-head game represents a full game either way in the standings.

Not sure if that's the reasoning for the lineup tonight, honestly. Story has played back to back games at shortstop since coming back. I imagine part of the reasoning for the lineup is to keep him off his feet a bit early in the series so he can play the field in the rest of the 3 games after this. Also, good to keep Reyes and Urias in the lineup, they both give excellent at bats.

They just need to keep winning games. It is not at all too early to do so, so I respectfully disagree. The team needs to stay hot if they want any chance at a wild card because they are chasing two teams that are also hot.

In my opinion Cora does a great job of having the eggs to not beat guys into the ground and even then people get overworked. It's a damned if he does damned if he doesn't situation.
