The last 2 games gave great signs coming into the Dodgers series — hitting execution, solid defense and pitching.
All I need is the Jays to lose today to make this a perfect day.

Let’s be real. Houston and Seattle are on another level than we are. It’s fun being competitive though Turns out we are exactly as good as Houston!
5-5 against these two teams combined.

Sigh. Was just trying to see what I missed. Apparently a whole lot. While the MFY sweep was fantastic, taking the Cheatstros out behind the wood shed feels just as good. Besides another feel good performance by Bello, looks the whole team got out a lot of frustration. In the words of Guidas "great win!' and lets carry it over.

Pablo Reyes should have had a chance to close this out ...
McGuire: needs to learn an alternate position so he's useful as a ... baseball player

111 EV for Devers let’s hope this gets him hot His August line is .292/.393/.538 - and that's before this blowout. He heated up with the weather.

This team was never gonna roll over - they’re not the Yankees after all. For a team whose season has been declared dead at numerous points, they’ve been quite hard to kill…

Two things:
1) Orioles up 5-3 on the Blue Jays going into the 8th.
2) Kyle Gibson leads the Orioles in pitcher WAR, and how in the hell does a team that has Kyle Gibson as their ace have the best record in the American League?

You outperform your run differential by 7 games and go 22-11 in one run games.

LFG They have 3 games each left against Toronto, Houston, and Texas And keep in mind we already have the tiebreaker locked up with Toronto and we're 2-1 against Texas so far. It's still possible for us to hold the tiebreaker against three of these teams. We have a reasonable chance of holding the tiebreaker against Texas even if we're 3-3 overall, but it'll depend on how the divisional games shake out. The same mechanism applies for Seattle, but at this point they're very likely to have the tiebreaker.

In other words, teams are rewarded for playing worse outside their own division? In other words, they're rewarded for being in a weaker division? Well that's stupid.

How do you figure? I’d say they are within 2 games of us. One could argue we are better than both of them “when healthy”

Yes, that's exactly it, and yes, it's an awful system. www.mlb.com/news/mlb-playoff-tiebreaker-rulesAnd here are the relevant intra-division records: Seattle: 22-11 Texas: 21-15 Boston: 19-14 Oakland: 6-28

I hate to be a Debby Downer because despite the warm fuzzies we all have from the last 2 games. We sit in the same situation with Houston as we did when the series started EXCEPT 4 more games have passed and we are chasing 2 teams not one which makes it exponentially harder. Houston still wins the series because they knocked 4 more games off the schedule. Speaking of schedules we have the hardest strength of schedule left of any team in baseball and all of the teams we are chasing are in the middle of the pack or lower. We can't play well we have to go on a tear. This series simply punted the ball down the field, someone had to win the series for it to have really meant anything. If we won it, the series would have been a two-game swing and we'd be in the thick of it with some momentum, and if we lost we'd be on the ropes. I hate to over-emphasize one game or series but at this time of year with 5 weeks left and the position we are in.........
