It is strange how much more the Sox looked like a playoff team when they were playing the worst team in baseball.

Living in NC and SC basically since the 1990s (with a few multi-year stints in LA and CT), I've been told that anything "south of Fairfax County, VA is "The South." Wake County in NC sure does feel like a suburb of NYC or LA lately, and especially since 2020 with the all the Covid/tax refugees. Same in the Asheville, and increasingly Hendersonville, area. Asheville, I get - always an outlier and a magnet for Northerners. Hendersonville is sad for me to hear. Henderson County so perfectly typifies the friendly warmth and hearty individualism of the "Mountain South" for as long as I could remember.

We love it here just as it is - great hiking, great restaurants, nice people, loads of breweries and coffee shops. Perfect for a former Rhode Islander! 😀

Pure hindsight, but Civale was the guy to get at the deadline.

Why does every other team we play have dudes that paint and our pitchers are just slabbing putty?

Why does every other team we play have dudes that paint and our pitchers are just slabbing putty? Our pitchers never face our hitters?

We moved here in Jan 2020. House value already doubled. It's insane. Our daughters will be the beneficiaries of that madness someday

Daytime Bello at the Trop = eight earned runs on an xBA of .135. Maximal bad juju.

Do you think there will ever be a time at Fenway when they play Harry Belafonte over the PA and the crowd cries “Baaaay-O!” and there is merriment?

Pure hindsight, but Civale was the guy to get at the deadline. To get him the Rays gave up Kyle Manzardo, who fangraphs has ranked as the #29 prospect in baseball. MLB.com has him #60. Who would you have given up to beat that offer?

Man, a lot of people here crapped on the Civale pick-up at the deadline.

It's a fair point that I wouldn't want to give up a Mayer for him, but I also wonder why Manzardo is ranked that high as a 23 year old first baseman with league average AAA offensive production. These things tend to work out in the Rays favor--I suspect Manzardo won't amount to much and the Rays get a number 3-ish cheap starter for the next three years.

I would not have done Mayer for Civale either, but this does highlight the fact that the price to obtain impact pitching through trade this off season will hurt.

Also returns me to what we could have gotten for Paxton.

Next year Casas sends that last pitch oppo for a 3-rum bomb. And there will be no No No today! No shutout either. Let’s go!
