Roman and The Maine Monster*: A love story.
*And yes I'm aware that they have one in Greenville

Way too many “in memory of” game thread titles lately. Everyone circle around Del!

Portland hasn't had a catching prospect this exciting since Charles Johnson came thru as a Marlins prospect!

There's a nonzero chance that Teel could pass everyone to become our #1 by the end of the year. It'd take a lot though.

I think Anthony is the only one who would realistically be in that conversation. That there is a conversation is a testiment to Anthony.
We'll talk Teel, Anthony, and the rest of the Drive on the pod this week.
The tough discussion is Rafaela/Bleis/Teel 3 to 5.

Honestly to me the fact that Teel is already in a discussion vs. Rafaela and Bleis (and implicitly then has clearly surpassed Yorke) says a lot about how much he's done to impress so far.

In his age 21 season, Adley Rutschman put up considerably less production at essentially a level lower than Teel. Adley finished his season with 12 games at high A.
The majority of his season was at low A where his OPS was 100 points lower than Teel at high A.

We can be ecstatic about the quality of his play in that time, but the comp game at this early a time seems like a misstep.

I did specify end of season. If there's no significant drop-off in Portland, the national outlets are going to notice.
He also looks good behind the dish and the recent 1.95 POP time was particularly impressive because it was on a low inside (RH batter) pitch.

Anthony and Teel officially promoted. Donlan down to Greenville, Esplin to the dev list.

Are we going to bury Zanetello as a non-prospect because of his stats? We've always said not to even look at what a guy does in his draft year. Never mind the difference in what levels were like making it harder to compare.

On a musical note discovered this song through AllStar Baseball series when after a trip to Boston and Massachusetts I fell in love with a bunch of scruffs playing baseball. That was 2003 and I vividly remember being amazed that they played almost every night. I was in a bar in Gloucester and casually said to the bartender “hey is this a replay from last night?” I got educated them on the length of the season. 🤦♂️ Having just retired from my sport (we played about 30-40 games in a season) I was just wtf is this? 162 games are they mad? As I grew to appreciate its an amazing leveller. Your team isn’t getting lucky you finish around where you deserve. 20 years later and I learn things everyday through this site. The podcast and this forum. Being 5 hours ahead is a beast to deal with so often the first thing I do is open up soxprospects and read through the forum. Long way of saying I appreciate you all!

Welcome to the forum. It is sort of nuts. And it leads to a very different tempo than other sports. Teams have to plan for the long haul.

A note that some of you might find of note. By being called up to AA, Kyle Teel has made it farther in pro-ball than his father Garett Teel, who spent 5 years in the Dodgers system and peaked at A+.

No sooner said than done: Anthony with HIS first AA hit and a run scored.
Regardless of the game outcome, the youngsters should be feeling good about themselves.
