They're meant to be a lot less formal than other threads on the forum, so to moderate them the same way would be silly. However, we do ask posters to maintain a certain level of decorum in these threads, and we plan on moderating the Gameday threads a little more actively this season. In particular, we ask that posters refrain from being overly repetitive with their posts (if you've made your point, let it go), refrain from monopolizing the discussion (if you are making more than a couple posts in a row, you probably need to slow down a little bit), and of course, follow the Ground Rules ( link). The point is to make these threads worth participating in and fun for all posters, from our long-time fixtures to people just signing up today. -The Management

How is the weather looking out there for this series? Any chance they can get these games in?

Holy cow… I didn’t know about Whitlock’s brother. That is awful. Feel terrible for him and his family.

Defense is a disaster waiting to happen with Raffy and Valdez in the infield and Yoshida and CF Abreu in the outfield. Obviously he's a better defensive CFer than Abreu, but I feel like an inexperienced Rafaela is a better second baseman than Valdez too.

I imagine they wanted lefty bats for Schmidt but just play Ceddanne dammit! Your answer may be that the Front Office may be trying to increase Valdez and Abreu’s value for an off season trade…. They know what they have in Rafaela and do not need to increase his value as they have no intention of trading him…. Bloom & Co. does try to maximize value for the assets they have which means getting max value in trades.

Really don't get why they keep putting Abreu in CF field when he was primarily a corner outfielder in the minors. Makes zero sense. Also, why has Turner not been shut down? He can't even run the bases properly and the season is done. Let Yoshida DH, Abreu and Dugie cover LF/RF with Rafaella in CF. This really isn't complicated. Its all about 2024 at this point. Give the kids as much playing time as possible.

If they do fire him they will have their pick of the litter among GM candidates I will wait until we hear something from one of the national guys... And unless its theo coming back (which will never happen) I doubt he gets fired

And unless its theo coming back (which will never happen) I doubt he gets fired I think it's much more likely there is a shake up in the coaching staff. That doesn't necessarily mean Cora is gone, but it wouldn't shock me if Kyle Husdon, Ramon Vasquez, Dave Bush, Carlos Febles and Andy Fox are all put out to pasture. I think the hitting coaches get a pass, as does Tek.

And unless its theo coming back (which will never happen) I doubt he gets fired I think we need Jarred to define "poking around." I'll add that if somehow they slip down to 5th in the AL East (i.e. "another last place finish"), all bets are off for the front office and coaching staff.

Give the kids as much playing time as possible. When I don't understand, or impulsively disagree, with a decision a professional is making, my first impulse is: I've encountered an opportunity to improve my understanding. That is my default position, based on the premise that few decisions are 100% "correct" (always make the five point on an opening 3-1 roll in backgammon can be so defended), so it stands to reason an equally few are 100% "wrong." If I can make a persuasive argument against, what must be the keys points for (and have I weighted them incorrectly in my argument)? Bill James wrote an excellent essay on this topic several years ago & discussed the amount of information various managers/FO folks have relative to outsiders/fans as being so extremely imbalanced as to make our opinions little more than guesses. But it's been a long (disappointing, for many) season so who can begrudge a bit of hubris & crankiness? Not I. As a lineup decision strikes one, so a caustic comment strikes another. Carry on. & lets hope our Sox further embarrass those MFYs.

Was poking around reading these boards? I am a Bloom skeptic and still find it almost impossible to imagine him *not* surviving November.

Meanwhile, he just made the best play I’ve seen from the Sox in the outfield all season. At a minimum, they could use his defense out there.
