Off the wall memories...
Papelbon's mom, Westmoreland's dad, a lady who was a host family mom in Lancaster, Callis' early influence and his Q & A's, our first scout, Mellon, our Sons of Sam Horn (?) evacuee, Hairps.

I remember when I learned about here from SOSH back in 05 and being amazed at what I found. It's been an invaluable service for those of us who love following the ebb and flow of a minor league system. Since then, it's grown to a daily check for me for the information, the forum activity and in depth scouting reports. Congrats on 20 years and hopes of many many more!

Those twenty years shot by! A big thank you to Mike and Chris for stitching the staff and the prospect stuff together into something special. The optimist in me is convinced that the best is yet to come, for the team and the site.

SP is literally my favorite place on the internet. Since I found the site (I think fairly soon after it was founded) there have been very few days in my life that didn’t include at least a few minutes spent here. I’m a fan that has never lived anywhere close to New England and being able to have so much information available about a team I have loved since I was a ten year old boy has been such a wonderful, meaningful experience.
Very sincere congratulations to Mike and the entire staff. You make this little piece of the internet a great place to be.

Thanks guys. Best stop on the internet.
Question: who are the top-5 prospects of the last 20 years? I don’t mean in retrospect (so obviously a guy like Mookie looks good now). I mean who was the buzziest? The ones that people thought the highest of in the moment? (Maybe they didn’t even work out… )

(Maybe they didn’t even work out… ) Dear god, I can only imagine the debate this would spark, love the concept though. I feel if one tried really hard to not use hindsight at all and look back the past 20 years gusy like Clay Buchholz, Jacoby Ellsbury, Hanely Ramirez and Yoan Moncada make that last. Despite being the nice shiney new toy I think you can make an argument for putting Mayer on there too; I might have him at #5. But in my heart the all time #1 is Xander Bogaerts. There was just so much hype around him, and this site was in on him from a very early age too from what I remember.

Apologies for thread drift. I agree with the names Mike threw out. I was also convinced Casey Kelly was going to impact the team in a huge way. If I start listing the prospects I thought would be at least decent MLB players, who didn’t pan out, it’s too long a list. I think following prospects means being wrong a lot. At least if you approach as a “fan”, like I do.

So happy for you guys! I think I've been here since around 08 or so (give or take 3 years). Love it all and get educated constantly. CHEERS!

Let’s hope that at the 25th/silver anniversary celebration, after a couple more WS celebrations featuring the studs featured by Soxprospects, that most of us geezers from comment sections are around to celebrate it with you. This site has had the power (though not always the positivity) to keep us involved, hopeful and forward looking. Many thanks and much praise.

The Lavarnway Guy has to be up there. I miss the times when temple posted more as well.

The player I was most excited to see at Hadlock because of the hype was Hanley Ramirez. Fast rising Andrew Benentendi as well. Jon Lester is the one I was most anxious to see as much as possible, not due to prior buzz, but by how freekin good he was the 1st game I saw him in.

Was he as exciting at his peak as these guys? Was more Bleis-ish with a ton of promise, but at the top of a fairly weak system so ranked higher in context.

Ryan is probably my all time favorite but I wouldn't put him in that top 5. He didn't play long enough. #1 in tools and skills though. I actually saw a lot of Ryan on the internet. A local Lowell TV station would live stream the home games from a single camera with no announcers. That was strange in itself but better than box score scouting which was in reality, our only daily option on the internet.

Probably need to throw Moncada and Benintendi in there, perhaps for Ellsbury and Devers? Depends on criteria. This is all a snapshot in time, so who had the highest prospect "peak" is different than who had the most buzz the whole time. Betts too but his rise was so meteoric that he graduated before getting a top national ranking. If he still had been eligible in the 2014 offseason, he'd have been top 5 in the game you'd think.

Congrats on 20. Glad I have been around for the last 10. I certainly love the Sox talk but draft coverage is second to none and I find that I get to see all facets of the franchise as far as major leagues, minor leagues and draft picks, how it all functions together.
Thanks guys for creating the best Sox site there is.
Happy 20th and many, many more. Thanks,!!!

Yes, thank you to all who have helped with this site. I started "watching" in 2008 when I moved to LA for 3 years. This was my lifeline home.
When I started paying attention Lars had helium, and as he fell back to earth, every week we were waiting for Casey Kelly day!!! While I missed the pre-MLB hype of Lester, Paps, Buch, and Ellsbury, it was those players who led me here, and then this site that allowed me to finally scratch an itch I'd gotten for the first time watching Sele, Suppan, Nixon, and Nomar in 1995.

Long time lurker. Stopped posting when I was shot down for suggesting the Sox keep Adrian Beltre instead of Kevin Youkilis who was then in the twilight of his career. However... the site just got a featured story by Speier in the Globe today. Congratulations!

However... the site just got a featured story by Speier in the Globe today. Congratulations! Mate, I felt the same and was vocal at the time about it, but don't remember being shot down. Guessing you ran into some very aggro posters. I stopped reading during the Dombrowski era after he offloaded so many prospects. It was just too much to bear to see so many of the players you'd dreamt about, be suddenly gone. I know many of them didn't pan out, and the Sox won a WS, but I couldn't get myself to be emotionally attached and then gut punched again.

I think outside the box quite often and expect to get shot down but I like to hear the reasons why I`m crazy but usually just get crickets here.
