I think taking Xander back in any deal is the stupidest possible thing they can do, it’s literally only a move ppl are suggesting because of their emotions. His contract absolutely tanks all of Soto or Tatis value in any deal he’s attached to
If you thought the Sox got a suboptimal return for a year of Mookie because they attached the remainder of Price’s deal… how much do you think Mookie would’ve gotten if Price had another decade and $250 million left on that deal?
If they attached Bogaerts to Tatis I would maybe trade them a couple of middling prospects. If they attached him to 1 year of Soto I would trade them a low A lottery ticket. That’s how bad his contract is. He once again couldn’t drive in runs this year and waited for the teams playoff chances to disappear before stat padding and it’s only gonna get worse as he exits his prime

Absolutely love Xander, but want nothing to do with that contract, even if it gets us Soto.

Yeah love X and everything he did here, but last year was not good. A red hot September where his average exit velo was 86 mph (comparable to Christian Arroyo and Raimel Tapia, for reference) and his xwOBA actually decreased doesn’t change that. He can’t play shortstop for this team with Devers at third, and he doesn’t hit for much power anymore. There is just no baseball reason whatsoever to want him back. A lottery ticket for Xander and Soto is probably still an overpay.
