While the good teams keep playing, FA is still a month away, and prospects are headed to fall/winter ball or just off-season training (and jobs, for many). I started daydreaming about which kids in the Sox system might make the biggest leaps in the SP60 in 2024. Here are my top five risers (in alphabetical order):
Jonathan Brand: Relievers don't get a lot of love in WAR or rankings but all he does is throw strikes and miss barrels, so he's got my attention.
Kristian Campbell: Athletic kid with up-the-middle and power potential; could be in Portland by his 22nd birthday. Trennor O'Donnell: A grown-ass man who progressed year-to-year in the MAC; no truth to the rumor that he spent his $50k bonus on 50,000 tacos. Jedixson Paez: I like 6'1" 19-yo pitchers who don't need to be taught how to throw strikes. I also have a soft spot for Paez because both my grandfathers were named Jedixson. Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz: His K:BB took a step back in 2023 and he struggled with injury but he only just turned 20 and should spend most of 2024 in Greenville. I think he'll like filling out his 6'3" frame there.
Who are yours?

The three of you combine for about a dozen potential early risers, with likely more from other posters. This speaks well of the farm.

1. Brainer Bonaci - He already made a pretty noticeable rise this past year in the rankings, but I think we'll start seeing him on top 100 lists by mid year next year. The defense seems to be above average and the bat to ball skills along with plate discipline are strong. Big thing for me is the increased power he showed this year. If the power is for real and the approach and bat to ball skills hold next year, you have an above average hitter with above average defense up the middle. Expecting a big breakout from him.
2. Yordanny Monegro - Really love this guys. Fun pitcher to watch on the mound, and the stuff seems pretty legit. I'd guess its a step down in comparison to the stuff Winkelman and Perales have shown, but the command seems a bit better on Monegro's side. I could see a Bello-esque breakout in 2024.
3. Antonio Anderson - I love betting on recent draftees with beautiful swings, and I think Anderson really fits the bill. The swing just screams "hitterish" to me. Numbers weren't great this year, but I tend to ignore the first few months of a high school draftee's professional career. Likely a third-baseman long term, but a fun combo of bat to ball skills and raw power.
4. Hunter Dobbins - Showed pretty good command this year, and his stuff played even when jumping to a much more advanced AA. I could see him jumping to the early teens by end of year, and having a solid projection of a back end of the rotation guy.
5. Nelly Taylor - There's pretty much zero video on this guy besides one 5 second video on twitter of him hitting a nuke. Instantly loved the swing. Extremely athletic, can play up the middle, and has good raw power. The part that sold me though is his story(https://www.masslive.com/redsox/2023/09/red-sox-2023-draft-pick-beat-cancer-cousin-saved-his-life-with-tackle.html). Seems like a really incredible person, and one who is easy to root for. Sign me up for another breakout year.

Luis Ravelo struggled last year but only going to be 20 this year and can really put some muscle on his frame probably starts in Salem again and if all goes well he's in Greenville soon enough.

Put O'Donnell on instead. Thanks for the Taylor link. Lots of good kids to root for.

A name I haven't seen yet that could really move up lists is Starlyn Nunez. Put up very good numbers in the DSL and seems to have been overlooked because Cespedes and Franklin Arias were excellent.

Going to wait to see where Roman Anthony winds up on some of these year-end top 100s because if he winds up a consensus top 30 prospect, I think he has enough of a chance at finishing 2024 a top 10 guy to warrant inclusion on my list.

A few dark horse low minors pitchers that could follow the out-of-nowhere surge ala Perales and Monegro: Yizreel Burnet, Juan Henriquez, Diego Hernandez

A lot of intriguing prospects to pick from for this list:
1.) Reimer 2.) Brannon (If he can stay healthy) 3.) paez 4.) d. Hernandez 5.) burns (college pitcher) after we draft him, he will explode through our minor league system.

Whether or not I’d want Chase Burns aside, very good odds he barely pitches for whatever team he is drafted by in his draft year, so doubt trust explosion through the system would come in 2024.

Diego Hernandez I would imagine Yep, must be. I totally forgot about him. Easy guy to forget, we traded a guy who never played for the Sox to get him and he hasn’t appeared in a game in the system Seems mildly intriguing, hopefully he comes back from his surgery with a little extra juice
