Well, Jordan Montgomery is going to cost more than I was hoping for. The Yankees traded him for Harrison Bader and then went and got Frankie Montas in ‘22, and Monty’s about to make more straight cash than both of them combined Exchanging Montgomery for Montas (Not in the same transaction but in the same role) trying to line up their rotation for October proved to be a bad series of trades. Montas was ineffective and didn’t get a start in the ALCS. I guess Bader did play well in the postseason but they ended up waiving him this year. And Montas pitched 1.1 innings this year.

Are we still thinking the fans in Philly are insufferable at this point? Maybe working at a Philly based firm and having friends in Philly has softened me but they've been great this postseason, and the Turner standing ovation was the most off-stereotype thing I've seen a fan base do maybe ever. Fine, you caught me. I'm the insufferable fan who doesn't want my Philly fan friends to experience good teams and joy while I'm stuck watching Mac Jones and whatever the Red Sox just did. I'm not ready for Title Town Boston to be dead, and certainly don't want it moving to Philly.

is there a better current modern day example of a pitcher who transitioned from throwing gas to being a better overall "pitcher" than Nate ? Yes, he still throws hard, but I remember when he was with the MFY's, he was just a guy that threw real hard. Seems to me he has been a guy who has really honed his craft.

If the Phils make the World Series again while their farm has gone from bottom third in MLB to solid middle - all under Dombrowski's regime - will John Henry and Tom Werner become the laughingstock of the other owners, or are they there already? I dunno, if other owners are laughing at the guys with the biggest trophy case I might suggest a look in the mirror. More about him doing Dave Dombrowski things in Philly while still building up the farm. Meanwhile, that trophy case in Boston is getting dusty...

Guidas ought to be banished to an SB Nation Phillies Blog comments section until Dombrowski leaves his current position Hey, I didn't hire him in Philly.

I'm sorry but this is one of the worst takes I can imagine. No ownership has won more titles than the sox since Henry and Co. Took over. Not going to say they don't have their blemishes they certainly do but laughingstock? Nope. For the record, I feel blessed that the Sox won 1 WS in my lifetime, never mind 4. I am also eternally thankful to the owners for that. But I can see I was the only one in seeing some sliver of irony in DD going to Philly and achieving the kind of success they were hoping for in his wake. I will delete the post and refrain from seeing such irony.

what i can take from this series and keeping track of the series so far, is just how much of these games is built on momentum. Which squares with what i have seen all my life watching sports. I never quite understood people downplaying that, and there were many times i have read that.
Now, the Astros get a bomb, it opens the door for that kind of change. Always fascinating to me.
The greatest example of that was the dreaded 86 Mets game 6. Sure, there was a lot of bad luck, but the momentum, while they couldn't get the last out, was palpable to myself and everyone i was watching with (which was easily 90 percent Mets fans)

Yordan Alvarez is the best hitter in baseball is that really true ? I don't know enough to form an opinion. Doesn't it help, though, that he bats lefty and plays in a little league park ?

Nate is Mr. October.
Bases juiced, no outs, gets 2 Ks (Altuve for one) then a Bregman groundout. You kidding?

Such a massive mistake letting this guy walk. Dude has balls of steel in October. I don't know if it was Henry or Bloom but this guy wanted to stay...

Such a massive mistake letting this guy walk. Dude has balls of steel in October. I don't know if it was Henry or Bloom but this guy wanted to stay... I blame Bloom. He had X amount of dollars available and he made an offer to Eovaldi who shopped it around trying to get a better deal from the Sox. Meanwhile Bloom spent his money allotment. No qualms about getting Jansen, Yoshida, and Martin. But he was restricted because he made the huge mistake of staying over the luxury tax limit in 2022 so he had to stay under in 2023. If you go over it's so that you can add Eovaldi back who would have returned had the offer not been pulled. It was pulled because of the 2022 trade deadline mistake of not getting under. It's obvious the Sox while strengthening the pen weakened their rotation not adequately replacing Eovakdi and even Wacha.

I feel like postseasons should be factored into WAR:$ calculation. I mean, take Nate: if he got hurt next year, wouldn’t this season pretty much make his deal worth it?
Add: by the way, I am not bagging on the Sox for not signing him. I’m glad he’s getting this chance, and he wouldn’t have made the difference.

Feel like this gets wrapped up into the "intangibles" that guys end up getting paid for in free agency or with extensions.

What does this say about the dodgers and the fact that ARZ was able to shut down their offense pretty easily?
