Wonder what that means for Ed Romero Jr. Can't be flattering when you get passed over for a promotion when you've been there 15 plus years. Has he never received a promotion? Does longevity portend continued ascension or might one "reach their level"? He's gotten promoted, but he might not agree with having "reached his level". He might consider his level higher than the Sox ownership does.

Good point, although he may wonder why Breslow got that job and not him? I mean, he was trying for the job so he must have wanted it or thought he was a damn good choice. Actually if indeed Breslow is the guy, then Romero could be very valuable given that he certainly knows the lay of the land.

Crazy idea: is it possible for a GM to also be a pitching coach?

Def reads like they offered Breslow the GM role and he played hardball and won the #1 spot

Yeah just for the title and a (presumed) raise I assume Romero would do that - it’s not like he’s going to go out and get a different GM job tomorrow somewhere else. We’ll see what Breslow has in mind

Def reads like they offered Breslow the GM role and he played hardball and won the #1 spot I don’t know. GM has higher visibility and the title itself is a good resume builder, better than assistant GM. I think it would be weird to hire a GM ahead of your PBO. The PBOs should pick their own general manages and that’s how it’s usually done. Unless they offered Breslow GM with no PBO in the works, thereby giving him the “#1” position but also enough accountability to allow for placement of a PBO above Breslow and a demotion to #2, if necessary.

This is exciting. A new leader, under the cap, a clear #1 improvement priority and very good options available in the FA class.
Hope the Rangers sweep the WS so off season action can begin !

I wonder what his relationship with other teams looks like. Probably pretty good with the GMs he played for!

Just noticing that Breslow did not get a ring in 2007 because he did not pitch in Boston, even though he had pitched in Boston in 2006 and had a fine season in Pawtucket in 2007

One week after Bloom was let go.

Breslow had the most helium of anyone on the list. I have no idea if he'll do well, but he has the resume I'd look for in an emerging candidate.

He was called up for one game. Bullpen wasn't needed that night though because Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter.

I can't say I'm fully on board over say, just not firing Bloom, but he was also the only interesting name they attracted to the position so let's see what he can do.

Well maybe some lessons were learned this time around... at least this seems like a better starting point for Breslow than Bloom's directives to trade Mookie, rehire Cora, and retain the incumbent FO leadership.

I like it. All I didn't want was some stodgy old industry vet. Get someone new, fairly young. I also don't know how much this matters but I like that he is a local guy as well.
