Shouldn't it obviously have gone to Jose Ramirez? .305/.374/.498 vs. .270/.348/.497 Rafi had 87 more PAs I guess, but Ramirez clearly had the better batting line.
Maybe Devers won because of the 20 point advantage in xwOBA. SMDH at these newfangled stats... whatever happened to good old fashioned wRC+?

He almost didn't get 100 RBI. In the third inning of the final game, he plated Dugie from third on a one-out grounder that Gunnar Henderson misplayed, allowing Raffy to reach. It was scored no RBI but Dugie was running on contact and it was obvious that he would've scored even if Henderson had played the ball cleanly. Henderson was playing in on the edge of the grass with the rest of the infield but he had to reach across to the right side of his body to backhand the sharply hit ball, so there was no way he could've turned, set himself, and thrown to the plate in time to catch Dugie. Will Flemming was beside himself and wouldn't let it go until Raffy was finally credited with his 100th steak a few innings later. I wonder if Flemming lobbied the official scorer between innings.

I love Devers, I was thrilled when they committed the big bucks extending him and I think people were generally too hard on him this year. I believe there are many 4+ WAR seasons in his future.
All that being said, Jose Ramriez should have won this.
In any case – congrats Raffy!

Not sure what splits you might be using, but Jose Ramirez hit .282/.356/.475, Devers hit .271/.351/.500. Devers had the wRC+ advantage 124 to 123. It does seem like historically when it's that close, the award has gone to the better all-around player (clearly Ramirez, which is very much not a slight to Devers).

Rafi...future DH. Hopefully, not too distant DH. Born to hit. Could be Ortiz-like. Nothing wrong with that.

I was sorting on fangraphs for their stats *as 3B*. (Ramirez stunk in 135 PAs as a DH.) There's sort of a question as to whether the silver slugger ought to go to the best hitter who primarily plays a given position or the best hitter when they're playing that position, but the truth is it didn't occur to me that there'd be a difference.
