Interesting - it'll be interesting to see what teams do with their 2024 draftees. Kyle Teel didn't play his first game in the FCL until August 3. Glad they're getting that league started earlier though.

Probably not going to see many high school players in their draft year anymore unfortunately

Probably not going to see many high school players in their draft year anymore unfortunately I hate this. What good does this do for the players or orgs? They should just make the season longer if they want to start it earlier. I miss the Spinners too. Old man rant over

I love this. Are we really going to miss Zanatello late signing, kicking around Florida for a couple of weeks, then 36 overmatched at bats?
Let's instead get the DSL and prior year HS kids an earlier start so we can sort them out for promotions to the low A while there's till time left on the schedule. New draftees can report to the intrasquad games the last month while getting used to pro ball.

WOW! Not sure how I feel about that. Good for the Dominican League kids. May be good for a few draftees from the year before who were not ready for Low A. I always loved see the new kids just drafted, if even for a few games.
I can see someone like Cespedes or Arias this year being on a faster track if looking ready for Low A.
I'm like a lot of you, I like little change. Maybe quite good for the International players.

Basically, extended spring training and the FCL have simply flipped places on the calendar. I don't hate it. With the way that teams prefer to work with new draftees, I think this makes a lot of sense. Guys who are ready for games are ready for Low-A. Guys who are not are now not forced into FCL games, but will play in the "shadow league" games in Fort Myers that can be paused, innings rolled, etc.

We’ll be hearing hype about some players from these “tricky league” games.

This feels like a much more natural progression from having everyone on site in spring training. Also the Fort is nicer in May than in August/September.
