Find it personally sickening if Rodriquez and Anderson are on the roster just because they have -00 options. The -0- opttions game costs teams wins, always has and is so easy to see. Always go with the best player available and it's in no way quad A guys like joely rodriquez and chase anderson.

Even the Story doubters have to be intrigued by his spring training performance.

They specifically wanted a lefty and a second long guy. And even if Bernardino might edge Joely in a vacuum, if he isn't much better than Joely, why let Joely walk for that tiny benefit? Joely has a career 3.72 FIP over parts of 6 seasons in MLB bullpens. He isn't a AAAA player. He's fine.

Whitlock - 6 innings 3 hits, 1 BB, 6 k’s. Only 67 pitches (10 of them swings and misses)

First game I've watched (on mlb tv) - impressed with lots. Valdez, Story, O'Neill in particular - Whitlock of course, and Slaten. Thursday is coming fast!

I don't see any news of Berndardino starting in AAA. After watching Joely so far in this inning, it would seem to be a poor decision. SoxProspects still has BB on the ML team.

Interesting - Booser tossing 98 from the left side. Looks better than Joely did. (tiny sample size, I know). But - looked pretty intriguing.

Between him and O'Neill, I've allowed myself to become irrationally hopeful that they've had all along that right handed power bat to stick between Devers and Casas.

Rafaela's been very consistent. Seems like he has a hit in every game.

The one thing that’s curious about this to me is that they wanted his sinker to have more drop. In previous years, his 2FB didn’t sink much at all - it had almost the exact same drop as the average 4FB, but with more run. So at his best, he used his 2FB up in the zone as an attacking weapon, essentially like a 4FB. If he’s throwing a 2FB with more standard sinker movement, I can’t imagine he’ll want to pound the top of the zone. So this isn’t just a case of adding a cutter and gyro slider, it also may totally change his pitching style.

My takeaways..
Whoa Whitlock. 67 pitches to get through 6. Sharp sharp sharp. He might be a bullpen rest day.
Along with Story, the right handed balance situation was solved the day they signed O'Neil.
Reyes and Abreu remain in a funk.
Like everyone else, I doubt if we'll ever see the solid lefty we expected when we signed Jolly Rodriquez. He should have a very short leash and the guy I want pitched the 9th.
For the team...
General health. check
Character and professionalism. check.
Exciting play. check.
Plate discipline. check
Plus base running. check.
Power. check
Plus defense. check.
Plus starting pitching. check.
Plus relief pitching. check.
Plus coaching. check
Gaping holes. checkless.

And Bobby D goes 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.
I really want him to succeed here, I really do, but he sure seems to be a case of what we see is what we’ve got.

So this isn’t just a case of adding a cutter and gyro slider, it also may totally change his pitching style. Whitlock had said that’s it actually a different type of sinker - a “one seamer” he had used in college. The way he explained it the conversation with Andrew Bailey, Whitlock had asked if he should throw it and Bailey was like, “Do you feel comfortable with it?” Whitlock said yes and and Bailey was like, “Okay cool, go ahead and throw it.” You’d like to think if he needs to bring back his old two seam (or his four seam) in a pinch he’d be able to do so I guess. But it seems like his approach as a starting pitcher is like sinkers to get ground balls/strikes early in the at bat, and then sliders/cutters/changeups to get K’s. (As opposed to 2021 when his 2-seam/4-seam was his put-away pitch about half the time per Baseball Savant.)

What were the Rangers trying to do yesterday - sort out their bullpen depth throughout the organization? They used 12, count 'em, 12 pitchers, none of whom pitched more than an inning.

Rafaela's been very consistent. Seems like he has a hit in every game. He’s been fun to watch but the way people talk about him you would think he’d have a better wRC+ than 121 this spring. That would be more than good enough during the regular season, but I don’t think the .242 ISO is sustainable, and the 6% BB rate might not be either.

If Whitlock stays healthy (big if, I know) I like his chances of being the best pitcher on the staff.

He's only hitting something like .270 but he is still managing a hit in almost every game. So perhaps he just hasn't had a hot streak and this is what he does when he's in a slump. I have on my rose colored glasses.

Casas out of the lineup for the second day in a row. Are they trying to get as big a look at Reyes, Dalbec and Valdez or something up? I have been under the assumption that all three of those guys are basically locks to make the team at this point.

Casas out of the lineup for the second day in a row. I can think of one reason to sit out a couple practice games that people here would be happy about

A very nice 3+ inning start by Dick Fitts against the Rangers regular lineup.
