LF vs RHP: .296/.349/.491 LF vs LHP: .227/.354/.439 RF vs RHP: .333/.413/.515 RF vs LHP: .308/.428/.400 DH vs RHP: .293/.335/.460 DH vs LHP: .350/.409/.450
Growing up a Sox fan in Maryland I saw a lot of Orioles baseball, I remember Earl Weaver had a pretty strict platoon of Gary Roenicke and John Lowenstein, Roenicke got most of the almost all of the at bats vs LHP and Lowenstein got a majority of the at bats vs RHP. It made 2 somewhat average hitters into 1 pretty good offensive spot in the lineup.
The stats above are 2023 stats for:
LF vs RHP: .296/.349/.491 Duran LF vs LHP: .227/.354/.439 O’Neill RF vs RHP: .333/.413/.515 Abreu RF vs LHP: .308/.428/.400 Refsnyder DH vs RHP: .293/.335/.460 Yoshida DH vs LHP: .350/.409/.450 Dalbec
I realize there are some limited sample sizes, and am certain that some guys won’t put up these numbers with more at bats, but I also think several guys could put up better numbers. I think the infield for the Sox will be pretty set in stone if Grissom is what they hope he is, Rafaela in CF represents an opportunity for this club to show they are committed to helping the pitching staff with some defense, and hopefully Wong gets a 2/3 split at catcher. I strongly believe that Cora should use strong side platoons a lot in the corner OF spots and DH., to maximize the club’s offensive potential.

I just wish the Sox had a great 3B coming up so Devers could be where he belongs...DH.

I don’t think it’s very likely to have all 7 guys you named on the roster when the season starts. That would mean cutting Reyes, and I really doubt they’re going to give up that infield depth.

Good on paper but so much hinges on health. A Yoshida or Abreu hamstring injury gives us >150 less than stellar Refsnyder ABs vs RHP. Risky gambit for what should be run producing positions and Casas/Devers are the only solid portions of the line up.

Risky gambit for what should be run producing positions and Casas/Devers are the only solid portions of the line up. The projected OFs for opening day are Yoshida, O'Neill, Duran, Abreu, and Refsnyder. You would need two injuries from this group to force Refsnyder to start against righties - with one you might as well DH a guy like Valdez against righties - and if there are two OF injuries Rafaela would almost certainly be up. Rafaela would presumably be fine to start against either side because so much of his value comes from his glove.
I don't see how you can say Casas/Devers are the only solid portions of the lineup either. wRC+ projections per ZiPS:
C Connor Wong - 88 1B Triston Casas - 127 2B Vaughn Grissom - 108 3B Rafael Devers - 128 SS Trevor Story - 99 LF Tyler O'Neill - 120 CF Jarren Duran - 95 RF Wilyer Abreu - 101 DH Masataka Yoshida - 117
ZiPS seems to see 4 good hitters, 4 average-ish hitters (all of whom have the upside to be above average), and 1 slightly below average hitter. Zero black holes, and the only position without much offensive upside is C.

I think he's an underrated defender, but not liking the idea of Dalbec as the backup SS. 6 outfielders without positional versatility (aside from Rafaela who is the fulltime CF in this scenario) is tough. Wouldn't be surprised if Refsnyder gets cut/traded if Rafaela makes the team.
