theathletic.com/5277693/2024/03/06/twins-platoon-left-handed-hitters/This article talks about the merits of platooning, which given the huge number of LHH in the current lineup and in the system, could become more frequent in Boston too. In the past, I have always disliked the idea of platooning young LHB guys before they got a real chance to hit vs LHP. I figured this would hurt their development, but this article made a very interesting case to curb that fear:

I suppose that curbs the fear in the abstract but raises the fear in the concrete cases of Abreu and Valdez, whom we can't bank on improving against lefties through more exposure.

Yeah I think they were safe cases to be platooned anyway with Refsnyder and Reyes, but I think more than anything adjusting to hitting against same handed pitching just takes time. The point wasn’t to say that if you can’t you never will, but that your odds of doing so aren’t really impacted by getting platooned in the short term.
