Hope they dont have to use him. His numbers are just ugly and pretty much just have been, even in the minors.

Gutierrez was a borderline top 10 prospect for the Reds, had an okay rookie year in 2021, then stunk in 2022 before getting TJS and has only pitched a handful of innings since. Kyle Boddy was with the Reds when they had him, possibly relevant.

Is this the 2024 Barraclaugh we are missing?
Seriously....OK. An arm, a warm body - this is where we are at.

The Sox need a warm body. They don't have anyone behind Criswell.
He may suck, but the Sox need to cover innings somehow. Not going to judge Breslow poorly on this move, even if it doesn't work out.

He’s just more high minors depth in case of another injury. Throw him in the Criswell/Uwasawa bin

Uwasawa Need more insurance there. Uwasawa had a less than ideal line in his second start. 5 innings, 4 earned runs, 2 hbp, 2 walks, one 1 homer, 5ks. Small sample, obviously.

What's the plan here? Is he just a throwaway? Do they plan to to give him major league innings in his current state? Is he a project for the pipeline? I'm ok with 1 and 3...2 would be scraping deep down in the barrel

Wow no bad “can he play SS” joke. We’re slacking With a name like Gutierrez, I initially thought he might be a SS, and was disappointed to see that he was a pitcher…

Somebody needs to start those games as well as in Boston.

I like this move. He gave up one 3 run homer to Tellez at the end of a long at bat in his only MLB outing this year and then got cut. His outing was otherwise solid. He showed some flashes before his injury. Clearly he will be motivated. If nothing else, will be interesting to see what the pitching development team can make of him and we need pitching depth so worth a shot, even if it doesn't end up working out.

I mean technically you'r right...Gutierrez' AAA ERA this year is only 13.5! His last significant MLB innings (36IP) were in 2022 with 7.6ERA/5.7xERA. That's pretty Jacques-que IMO. Maybe he just gives you more innings? He was a free agent this offseason and the RedSox are his 3rd team this year...guess he is "just a body"

I'm ok with 1 and 3...2 would be scraping deep down in the barrel The plan is he's better than Joe Jacques who has an ERA of 15.75 in AAA this year. Over 4 innings... And, true to form, despite being strangely wild this season (3.2 BB/9 in his MLB career), he did not allow a hit that traveled more that 256' (a double by Ji-Man Choi) in that sample. From 2023 to present, only four players in the majors have a higher GB% while throwing more innings than Jacques: Andre Pallante, Clay Holmes, John King, and Jhoan Duran. Is he a great fit for the current infield? Certainly not. But the unwarranted disrespect this man has gotten, even among the comparatively measured denizens of SP.com, makes me want to go to bat for him. Will I be shocked if he's thriving in Tampa by August? Not one bit.
Complete aside, but it looks like there's an error in the stats in Jacques' first game - Politi is credited with 0.1 IP despite him relieving Jacques mid-inning and allowing a walk off grand slam with 0 outs per the "key moments" list. Isn't this mostly automated? No clue how that gets missed.
