Would love to know if Lugo made real changes this offseason or if this is just an insane heater

Nick Sogard has settled in after a rough start. With some arbitrarily picked end points:
Started 8-45 (.178) 1 2B, 1 HR, 4 BBs, 18 Ks (40%)
Since 10-28 (.357), 3 2Bs, 7 BBs, 5 Ks (18%)

He only got 2/3 of an inning in his last start. I get wanting to get him back on the bump before Tuesday. 6-man rotation and Monday off day lets you do this.

New guy Gutierrez pitched 1 inning in relief (and it didn't go well). Is he not gonna start anymore?

Would love to know if Lugo made real changes this offseason or if this is just an insane heater Didn’t he start off the year really strong last season or maybe 2022 as well? Maybe he just likes the weather.

Meidroth on base in 4 of 5 PA. OBP sitting at .463 now. We’re getting pretty close to 600 AA PA for Yorke, and although I don’t think Meidroth is more than a second division starter or really handy platoon/utility type with high baseball IQ/sum is greater than the parts.. I don’t know what Yorke does better than Meidroth

Well, for now, Pipeline, BA, Athletic, here all have Yorke ahead This kind of got addressed in the last podcast. Chis asked Ian if this was the last chance to rank Yorke for the season whether or not he'd be a lot lower. Ian said yes. By the way Chris asked the question, I assume he's in the same boat. Yorke has too much pedigree and his highs in the system were such that they cna't write him off (yet) but he's trending downwards. I'm rooting for him (we should root for everyone) but it seems but like he's on a downward track.

Oh, I definitely am not rooting against the guy, and it’s hard to write off a guy in the high minors at age 22. It’s going to be a complicated rule 5 call. It’s a crowded class.
I remember Richie Martin as a recent first round pick turned rule 5 selection who was plucked by tanking Baltimore after a solid year in AA / age 23. He also played SS instead of 2B only.
I haven’t listened to the most recent pod yet. I can’t argue for Meidroth to move into the top 10 or something but yeah, I agree with Ian’s answer there.
On the other hand, it’s a good sign of system health that first round pedigree isn’t by default keeping a guy in the top 5-10 basically no matter what he does. We have players in the 40s who’d be vying for back end of the top 20 not all that long ago.

Best hit ball of the year for Taylor. He plays great defense and doesn't strike out a ton, would love to see him start doing enough damage to the baseball to let me believe a little.

I know he's a graduated guy, but Kelly has got rid of his old slider it seems and has instead gone to a cutter and what looks like a huge sweeper. 9 IP, 1 H, 8 BB, 10 K

Minor league record doesn’t matter…..
That said, Portland has won 9 of their last 10.

The problem with Meidroth is his BB% is going to tumble in MLB and can he do enough damage to keep a pitcher honest. Ugly quality of contract so far.
