Good series win. Who goes down for Grissom?
It has to be Vasquez or Hamilton, right?
I think I would rather keep Hamilton for now.

We could use one guy who comes out of the bullpen and throws 100mph...seems every team has one but us I share this perception, so looked up the data. While not everyone has somebody throwing 100 (18 pitchers with 5+ innings pitched this year average 98+), I was curious where the Red Sox ranked. Justin Slaten is 58th in average velo at 96.5 (right next to old friend Jordan Weems). 17 above Slaten are starters. There are 24 teams with a reliever averaging higher velo than the Sox highest. Red Sox relievers overall average 93.9 mph, that is 19th in baseball among relievers.

Houck’s splitter is a weapon, who was the last starter we had with such a good split, Schilling? For SP maybe, but Paps obviously had one, and how can we forget Koij.

Chris Martin ER:
2023: 6 2024: 7
(But I think he's fine. He was never gonna keep up last year's pace, and his peripherals still look good.)
In other news, Devers' OBP is up to .395. Nice to see him being more selective this year.

(But I think he's fine. He was never gonna keep up last year's pace, and his peripherals still look good.) He’s throwing cutters 50% of the time and his fastball is ~1 mph slower. Not sure if that’s related, but it’s kind of odd for a reliever who uniquely has a lot of different pitches he can throw. Martin seems to be the one guy who Bailey hasn’t be able to find the right pitch mix for yet

When it seemed that the season may have been lost because the injuries kept piling up some key bats really stepped up. Devers is heating up, Yoshida has turned it around, now Refsnyder and O'Neill have both returned and are hitting well. Conor Wong is on pace for about 30 HR's this year. I've been very happy with the catching position this year.
Casas was a big blow, and Whitlock looks like he's going to be out for a little longer than we thought, but everyone else seems to be coming back soon. Winning cures a lot, and bouncing back to take 2 out of three from the Cubs is a good look.

There so much to like about this team. I’m very impressed how the starters stepped up. Maybe better coaching really helped Houck. It shows in the staff. It looks like there answers are all in house. It’s just the timetable. You can argue there top prospects haven’t even hit yet. I’m counting on Yorke. I ca see Jordan helping too. Including the others.

There's no one else in the top 100. This has been a weird month.

So you're saying having a good defensive shortstop helps settle down the entire infield. To play a little devils advocate, Devers wasn't at 3B. I'll be interested to see if Rafaela's range to his right helps Devers like Story was. Also shout out to Duran for playing good CF after looking atrocious to start his career.

Nevermind what the kid does with the bat, but how crazy is it that we have a CF who says "As long as the fly ball stays in the yard, we can catch it" puts up highlight real catch after catch.... Then ohh our starting SS is hurt? Let's see if the kid can help out at SS and he becomes the stabilizing factor for the infield, which stabilizes the pitching, there by stabilizing the team. It's just immeasurable how valuable that is and I'm one of the guys who said "yeah, yeah, yeah he's a good defender, but he's a raw free-swinger at the plate he needs time."
Now the bat is coming around? Im sold... The extension is well worth it.

I never want DRS or dWAR ever brought up again about how Ceddanne is just as bad as Hamilton or Reyes @ SS.

How serious is this injury. Honestly so upset with how he was benched then comes back has a good game then gets hurt and is treated like he's the worst OFer in baseball yet SS gets a pass on putting absolute trash there defensively at the most important defensive pos.
