If I'm remembering correctly pre-season last year Elmer was one of the low minors arms that was a guy to watch as a potential breakout. He only pitched 55 innings, looks like he dealt with some injuries but if this start is any indicator that breakout may just be happening this season. Definitely a guy to keep an eye on.
The development of Houck, Crawford and Bello as young SP arms is a great sign for the Sox and does help dispel the why can't the Sox develop SPs narrative but looking at the current farm rankings it does still seem position player heavy in the top 15-20. Obviously the work is never done and hopefully some pitchers in the minors are able to take that step forward and help make the farm more balanced.

Imagine if the system had the pitching all along it just took the proper coaching . New fresh ideas . I wonder if they just caught up on looking at the talent here and said to themselves we have the answers in house. Or we might be ok with what we have .

If that was the case, then more of the prospects would've succeeded when the moved on from the organization. But even the highly touted folks (Espinoza, Groome, Kopech, Kelly, etc) didn't turn into MLB starters.

Saw them all except Groome and was excited about them all. Remember talking with Kelly's dad, who was in the same business, and they were torn about him being shortstop or a pitcher. Thought he was going to be a good one. You never really can tell when they are so young.

Kinda funny how Blaze Jordan’s profile coming out of the draft was massive power + swing and miss, yet here we are years later and he’s never had a season with a K rate over 20% or an iso over .200

Cooper Adams for Greenville tonight. Looks like they're going to keep a 7-man rotation with a piggybacker each week.
Penrod in Portland. Looks like a skip for Coffey.
Also, confirmed that the DSL starts June 3, not May 4.

Also, confirmed that the DSL starts June 3, not May 4. They've been doing this all season where they skip the Tuesday starter from the week before across A, A+ & AA, & then start him on that Sunday instead, while bumping everyone up one day. It's been a bit less obvious in Portland due to the inclement weather & bringing Wikelman out of the pen a week early due to light usage. I would expect Duffy to start today for Salem & Wehunt, JDE & Coffey to all start this Sunday. It's an interesting way to keep the 6-man rotation & still have everyone pitching every 6 days instead of every 7.

Yup, just got the Salem probables and figured out the same when it was indeed Duffy.
My guess at what they're doing is that they're having the "skip" guy do something on Monday on the off day. Some kind of pitching lab simulated start or some extra long bullpen session. Could be wrong though.
That said, I wonder how Greenville is going to work. Sandlin is piggybacking Rogers this week. I can't imagine that's the plan going forward.
Also, O'Donnell is officially a piggyback for Elmer. He's done that in all three appearances and that's the plan for tomorrow.

I think Monday side work makes a ton of sense. That was the one that was tough because they have the extra starter with Adams. They might just phase Adams back into the pen after this week unless he shines, but they needed him to start one last time since he was the Wednesday starter last week & it allows them to keep the same system going. This was my projection for this week yesterday: Tuesday: Adams Wednesday: Early Thursday: Mullins Friday: Perales + Rogers Saturday: Sandlin Sunday: JDE But Sandlin + Rogers also makes sense for a one week thing, & then next week it could be: Tuesday: Early Wednesday: Mullins Thursday: Perales Friday: Sandlin Saturday: Rogers Sunday: JDE + Adams I think ERC will get promoted soon & O'Donnell will just get that slot in Salem. & things will get even more complicated in Greenville once YORDANNY is back. But none of those guys are pitching particularly efficiently for the most part, so piggybacking still works for now.

Cutter Coffey HR
His stats may not look very good, but his OPS is now 10 points better than average in that league, and he's a 19 year old SS in High-A.

Johanfran Garcia is 2-2 tonight and his average is up to .362 in Salem, which is supposed to be a difficult park to hit in. Could he see a promotion in level or ranking on the site within the next few weeks?
