Looks like Ramon Ortiz is lined up to pitch tonight for the Jays. It would be his first appearance against the Sox since 2004. In any Red Sox-related thread mentioning Ramon Ortiz, I'm contractually obligated to mention the 2000 dual against Pedro: www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/ANA/ANA200008080.shtml

Leaving a whole lotta runs on base against a bad pitcher and defense. Grrrrr.

You know it's finals when the gameday thread is a ghost town.
Is it too early to declare this game "interesting?"

Amazing how pathetic Red Sox lineup is against Ortiz who couldn't break a pane of glass with one of his pitches. Good thing that Lester is on his game tonight.

Agreed. Can someone text Farrell and let him know everyone but Nava and Victorino are being waaaaaaay too anxious.

Ok that's better.
Btw, what's the deal with Cecil's glasses? Do they do underwater welding in the Toronto pen?

Jon Lester is not an ace?

Well I think this qualifies as a WOW performance from Lester. Given the pitching struggles of the last week, you can't ask for anything more out of your #1 than a complete game 1 hit shutout of a division opponent

Has there been a more disappointing team than the Blue Jays so far this year? I hope Buchholz is able to show the Blue Jays he can ace them without going to his arm tomorrow.

"disappointing team" ---------------------- Yes they suck but they still swing from the heels and could have parked one against Lester, so it was a relief to see a few runs scored in the middle innings for support.
I don't think he got many over-generous calls so to walk none was impressive and nice the pen got a rest as well.

Just what the doctor ordered. A complete game shutout which rests the bullpen and gives the Sox a shot at starting a winning streak. Lester pitched like "an ace" tonight, but is he an ace? Depends on your definition.
If you go off of 2012, I'd say no. Depends on the composition of your staff, too. Lester, who has been good this year, hasn't been the "ace" of the staff. It's been Buchholz. All depends on your definition. When Pedro was here, you didn't have to wonder exactly what an "ace" is, but guys like Pedro are far and few between.

I honestly think that's the best pitched game I've ever seen by Lester an I've seen most of his starts. Couldve had 3-4 more Ks if the ump was a bit more consistent with the zone's boundaries. Great game.
Momentum is tomorrow's starter - Clay Buchholz vs Jack the Hack Morris.

Jon Lester is not an ace? I was coming to do this. The silence from the peanut gallery is deafening. Add: Between Lester's 9IP and Salty going 2-4 with a 2B and RBI I'm just assuming totheights is going apoplectic somewhere in the world.

Well he did give up Reddick, Lowrie, Head, Weiland, Alcantara, and Pimentel for ~74 innings worth of bad relief pitching. That Dodgers trade was great, but you can't ignore how rough those three trades have been.
