Good question. In addition to a poor looking base line, he allowed six stolen bases.

Yikes! What's going on with Brian Johnson? Ask Temple, he'll tell you. By the way I think "Morning Drive" sound 1,000 times better than "Drive in the AM"

Yikes! What's going on with Brian Johnson? Keeps hitting his head on the high floor I thought high floor deserved a break after Vitek hit it so hard. Hopefully he takes a much deserved break with the 7th pick in the draft.

We all knew Greenville had an awful lineup headed into the season. Can't believe the pitching has been this bad. Heads up to the folks in Salem. Enjoy this season. You have; Cecchini, Coyle, Marrero and Jacobs. They will be gone and you are really going to struggle next year.

The struggles of the college pitching at Greenville (Johnson, Light, Haley, Maddox, etc.) has been the most disappointing development in what has mostly been a positive first six weeks for the farm system.

In four years, the Red Sox might have a nice rotation, good young hitters coming into their own, and we'll all be talking about how devoid of talent the upper levels of the minors are. It's just how the cycle goes. If Owens can become a MLB SP by 2016/7, who is even the next SP prospect in the system? Someone from the Lowell rotation I guess, but no sure things.

Would not expect a wholesale promotion from Greenville. My current 2014 Salem roster projection (age as of 3/31/14): (SP) Kukuk (20), Montas (21), B.Johnson (23), Pena (23), Light (23) (RP) Ja.Garcia (21), Wendelken (21), Y.Ortega (22), Cuevas (23), Younginer (23), Kraus (24), [DRAFTEE](OF) [DRAFTEE], H.Ramos (21), Koback (23), Turocy (25) (IF) Chester (25), Betts (21), Vinicio (20), Gedman (25), Mager (23), Miller (24) (C) Weems (21), Hernandez (25)/Roberson (23) I would not be surprised to see position player upgrades (except Betts). The pitching looks ok.

While it's took early to tell.. the returns on Ben Cherington's first draft are not looking promising.

I'm in Zebulon NC to see Salem play the Carolina Mudcats. Cecchini will not play, alas, as he lightly turned his ankle last night. But I did get to tak to his mom! I told her I had heard the great interview she did with Alex Speier (and also that he was the best baseball writer in Boston). He'll probably play tomorrow; luckily I saw him play for Greenville last year. I will see marrero and Coyle st al. I'll post some reports but remember I have limited skills at analyzing swings or pitches

Salem out quietly. Coyle swinging k on 3-2, marrero poles grounder to 1b, de la Cruz k's.
Cuevas pitching Salem. Throwing 90 or so but stadium gun showered 95 once. I'm sitting behind he plate and the gun guys also had a high reading but are skeptical
Maquis and Lindor are the attractions for the Mudcats and they bat 1-2. Naquin walked and Lindor hit 2b down rf live to score him and Lindor x ordd on sac fly where Jacobs was charged with an error on the throw but the 3b failed to cover
2nd inning renfroe long 3b to rcf wall. Scores on Swihart grounder

Cherington doesn't know how to draft. This. Which has me scared even more about this year's pick. The early returns on the Red Sox 2012 draft aren't looking very good. Lets hope that there are some new voices involved in the drafting process such as Bane to challenge the process to avoid a repeat of the 2012 draft failures.

Neither ss has been challenged much but Lindor showed a strong arm and Marrero made a nice play behind 2b where he had to spin and throw
Did I mention that cecchini's mom borrowed my pen for him to sign some balls? I'm practically famous. It was for the family with whom their other son stayed when playing for team USA

Quevado with 2 on ks the first guy, throwing 94 or 95 and the next guy hits it up the middle and marrero bobbles but is quick enough to throw him out. I'm happy I get to see quevado
