I am under no illusions that Webster on his own gets you one of those guys. That's why I said package.
I am intuiting this because of the report a few weeks back that revisited the Nick Punto trade and cited front office execs from several teams who were mystified why Dodgers had included Webster because Webster is a guy who teamshad been asking about and purportedly making offers for but weretoldhe was off limits. I didn't save the link because at that point it seemed like Webster might've figured it out so I thought the Red Sox Fo got away with one. Other thann that I have no inside knowledge of the perceptions of other orgs. However, we all know how young elite pitching has become the new Holy Grail. There are GMs who covet prospects like him and we've seen those trades over the years. My only point here is that unless the Sox are exceptionally confident this guy will turn a corner, they should move him if the hype is what it appears to be while they can still get value for him before the luster fades. The Lars Anderson corollary, if you will.

The Lars Anderson corollary, if you will. At that point? You mean, like, four starts ago? There's small samples, and then there's absurd, ridiculous, laughable samples. Also, forgive me if I don't buy that the industry is lusting over Webster because you saw some article by some guy with some quotes from some unnamed front office execs about how some teams are making some sorts of offers for him.

Actually between his almost no walk spring and the minimal walks in his five starts before his second call-up I thought the pitching coaches had actually found a tweak that corrected something he'd been doing wrong. When I realized, probably not - just another short streak where he seems to be fixed and now he's back to what he's predominantely been - then thought it was time to find whatever suckers are out there in GM offices - and there's always a few - and see what could be had for all that tantilizing potential. Hey, that's how we got Pedro. Lots of potential traded for known start who was soon to become too expensive. Just need to find a GM who loves Webster and is of the Omar Minaya/ JP Richardi/ Jim Bowden school of over valuing selected opposing team prospects.
And Just to be clear wouldn't trade Xander in any package unless Stanton, Votto, Kershaw, Harper or Trout was comimg the other way.
