"Getting through 6IP with 8Ks on only 69 pitches is pretty good"
That is an amazing line for the night. Can only imagine if he gets a passable changeup.
Because of the changeup, and just the importance of him holding velocity (obviously didn't have many pitches to try it out) and the struggles with that in the past, I really hope there's little push/rush for him to start next year. Gotta think there's enough depth ahead of him (RDLR, Webster, spot Workman) to give him that chance. Which is partly the reason I'd not be too concerned about a promotion, if the scouting on his 3rd pitch stay the same, and Portland is a good place for him to work on it.

Swihart with another 3 hit game tonight. Hopefully he finishes strong again this year. Looking Good! Should spend the whole year in Salem right? Swihart may also start the CAR/CAL All Star game. His stats are close (but behind) a 26 y/o catcher for Frederick named Zane Chavez. But I imagine triples are a big part of the voting for starting Catcher. 290/375/435 in May for Swihart. Solid numbers, exactly what is expected. For a talented young kid, is right on target.

Bogaerts has just about overtaken Almanzar in OPS on that Portland team, despite the latter's 9 home runs. The power is showing up with lots of extra base hits, and the contact rate is good, as are the onbase skills. Still hard to believe he won't be 21 the season's over.

By August we'll start talking about Xander in Boston.... I just have a feeling he's a warm weather guy and he's going to start to show that elite power on a regular basis. I think his numbers could end up being the best we've seen from him and that's saying a lot.
I think that Rannaudo needs the call-up , word has him touching 96mph, with a plus curveball and a change that flashes plus potential. It's time to see what he can do against better competition. There is no reason that he can't be in Pawtucket by the all-star break. He's 23 repeating the level (albeit abridged after a lost year last year). He can fine tune his secondaries in AAA too. I much rather see Rannaudo in the rotation then the Journeyman guys like Godfrey et al.

Now that's a heck of a prospect day. +1 Holy crap, what a good day for the top prospects! I just saw Mike Andrews' tweets where he gives the short scoop on what the top guys did (those tweets are gold, btw). Great outing for Ranaudo and a lot of the bats too. Nice to see Iggy with that line drive double in Philly also.

Godfrey is holding the spot warm for Aceves. Ultimately, I would like to see the AAA rotation as Aceves, De La Rosa, Webster, Workman and Ranaudo and the AA rotation as Britton, Barnes, Owens, Augliera and Haeger/Couch.

Amfox - you think Owens is ready for AA (or will be ready for AA by the All-Star break)? He won't be 21 until 7/21 (wow, he shares a birthday with my son)
I like those rotations, though. Aguilera has been pitching quite well and it would be nice to see what he can in AA. Just seems like Owens could use the full year in Salem (maybe a 2 start cup of coffee at the end of the year in AA). He seems to be be still adjusting. It doesn't seem like he's been as sharp the last 3 starts or so.

Granted I haven't been scouting him, but that third pitch appears to be an issue, and I'd rather see Ranaudo be told to forget stats, and work on the changeup.. even if we see an ERA spike for a bit because of it. I think Portland (further away from MLB) is the place to do it.
Ranaudo could put up good numbers in AAA as is, but is going to get hit hard at MLB second time through an order without it.

Per Baseball America for 5/29:
BOS AA Bogaerts, Xander SS 4ab 3r 3h 5bi .282 - 2B (9), 2 HR (4), BB (24); Prospect Hitter of the Day
BOS AA Ranaudo, Anthony 7ip 1h 0r 0er 0bb 8k - 1.48 W (6-1); Prospect Pitcher of the Day
Not too shabby a day.
