Lots of Pawtucket moves - Maier and Villareal activated, Aceves and Wilson added, Dent to Portland, JBJ to Boston. There will be one more move to come once Wilson reports.
With Dent's move to Portland, there's another move to come there (likely Natoli to Salem, with a countermove at Salem - probably Gedman to Lowell).

Brentz last 19 games entering today: .329/.361/.519, 83 PA, 4 HR, 4 BB, 21 K
Still a ton of swing and miss in his game, but he's never not going to have it. .407 BABIP during that stretch.

Look at JBJ numbers in AAA, in virtually the same 19 games. 100 points higher OBP. 1/2 the HR. 30 points higher BA. Vastly better defense. Ergo the better ranking for sure. And the call up.

Linares activated. Natoli and Johnson to Salem. My guess is Heller goes back to XST in Salem.

I have never been married to BABIP. IMO it may say something but it is not the be all. I think that generally the harder contact a batter makes consistently, the higher his BABIP. Brentz makes hard contact. He does not get many dinks & dunks or "leg hits". Brentz is not ready for prime time I am sure, but a year or two from now, unless traded or injured, I see this guy as our RF.

A question for anyone who has seen Ryan Rowland-Smith. Is he doing this with nasty stuff? Or trickeration? 28 2/3 ip 13h 2er 8bb 23k. Pretty similiar vs righties and lefties as far as hits/bb/k's. Has just given up a couple of runs in 19 1/3 vs righties and none vs lefties.

Xander Bogaerts jacks #3 of the year to straight away center. He hit HRs against Marcus Stroman, 1st rounder of last year's draft. So is it meaningful?

Kalish looked like a 5 tool guy. Brentz is more of a power hitter, good arm, decent fielder IMO. Hopefully there is still a future, however arrested, for Kalish. Couple him with Westmoreland and there has been some awful misfortune. Hope Westy continues to recover and adjust. That guy has exhibited a lot of courage and determination in the midst of life-threatening not just career-threatening circumstances. I know that I would not have been able to do as well. Hats off at the top level for him.

Interesting from Cundall on Ranaudo tonight: "change-up has been below-average tonight. Slows delivery and ball floats to plate. Leaving it up a lot. "
Me: Looks to be getting by with fastball/curve tonight, but hopefully he can work on the change. Gonna be tough to make the Boston rotation with two pitches. Maybe Workman will teach him the cutter.

I may be wrong here, but I think this is actually Xander's first ever multi-HR game?

Yeah I actually remembered the Greenville one as the one that started really causing some buzz.
IIRC, he went from XST to the SAL and really made people pay attention.
Edit: rankings suggest that's true. 6/2011 = #18 and 9/2011 = #4
