Is there a reason why Cody Kukuk is now pitching out of the bullpen? Also, I noticed at the Salem game last night that Felix Sanchez was hitting right handed against the RHP. Has he given up on switch-hitting?

Has he given up on switch-hitting? He has indeed dropped the switch-hitting thing, per Evan Lepler's blog a few days ago. Thanks for the reminder - I've been meaning to update his profile. As for Kukuk, my guess is it's to control his innings. I know the Astros' piggyback starting plan involves switching the roles the pitchers are in. We'll see.

I'll be taking a good look at Henry Owens in his start tonight, with the target for a report to be posted on him this week. I've been getting some good reports on the progress of his changeup so far this season, which will be an area of focus.

Greenville site now lists Montas getting the start tonight after getting his start skipped last time through for rest. My guess is Haley piggybacks, but it could be Wendelken.

I've been getting some good reports on the progress of his changeup so far this season, which will be an area of focus. Sox have such quality depth ahead of Owens. He's got a great opportunity to learn his craft and not get rushed to the bigs. And, also get physically stronger. Full year in Salem, Full year in Portland and a full year in Pawtucket. If he makes the 2016 out of spring training. He's still just be 23.

Is there anyone in the DC/NoVA area interesting in sharing a ride to the Salem game. I am too old to be driving late at night on the way back. - work is not that important
I am wondering if it might be a good idea next year either to keep Owens in Salem for 1-2 months just to build up strength, or have him pitch out the bullpen at Portland initially so that later he can start with confidence. Consider what has happened to many older high prospects on arriving at AA.

I don't think it'd be the worst thing in the world for Owens to struggle a little, nor to learn how to pitch in the cold. If he's going to pitch in Boston, he'd better learn what it's like.

Hank staked to a 4-run lead as Salem puts up the crooked number in the first ...

Xander is starting to flat out amaze me with his ability to draw walks. Twelve walks in his last ten games against three strikeouts. I don't know whether to call it his patience, his approach, his eye, his thick hair, whatever. Dude is the total package at the plate.
Meanwhile, Travis Shaw. . .

If they trade Xander I will stay in the corner of a room in fetal position sobbing yelling "why" once in a while for the rest of my life.

That and pitchers aren't giving him anything to hit.

That and pitchers aren't giving him anything to hit. Except that there are lots of players who will swing at the stuff pitchers give them not to hit. The good ones are different. They know what they want and wait till they get it.

Bogaerts had an .895 OPS going into today, so he's above .900 now ... as a 20 year-old shortstop in AA. Whew.

Anyone with eyes on Portland tonight?
Britton has dominant results and starter efficiency tonight. Great recovery from the last start. Curious what it looked like on site.
Owens with a little struggle but still results.

88 pitches one hit in eight innings for Britton.
He might have starter potential after all.
This was a Maddox esc night.

They know what they want and wait till they get it. When he is locked in, it sounds like you just can't get him out on fastballs. That JBJ/Bogaerts Futures at Fenway game may be completely shot now... at least it may get Garin Cecchini. Just amazing. You see a lot of top 100 guys fall back after a jump (eg Lars Anderson) but just about everyone will have taken a step forward. Only one that may drop is Barnes, and a good couple months from him can wash away his early season struggles. #fistpump

The BB/K streak has been amazing though for Xander. That player of the week line had to be one of the better we've seen in a while.

When I said he was careening towards the .3/.4/.5 line last night, it only took him 5 plate appearances to do it.
Interesting though, it took that 1K in 7 games streak just to get his K<Games played. Walk rate at 13%ish, too. He wasn't ever bad this year past the first week IIRC, but those peripherals the last few weeks are jumping off the page.
