Indeed. Plus, I've seen people complaining about it in other circles, so I've pretty much got the go-to response ready.
Meanwhile, Robert Andino to the Mariners for Trayvon Robinson. Robinson was pretty awful for the Mariners, and didn't really do much at Tacoma, but that seems like a solid high-upside move for the O's.

The Yankees have re-signed Kuroda to a one year, $15m deal with another $1m in incentives.

Have to say, I'm a little surprised to see Ynoa get protected. I mean, I know the A's invested a boatload in him, but he had an ERA over 6.00 in the NY-Penn League. Based on that, I'd be skeptical he'd stick on a 25-man...

How I "won" an argument with a colleague who was arguing Cabrera should have won the MVP because of the Triple Crown:
"So you're saying Cabrera should have won the MVP, but had Hamilton hit two more homeruns then Trout becomes the more valuable player?"
I guess he realized the flaw in his logic considering he couldn't find a reply.

I have no issue with Cabrera winning the MVP, he done something that wasn't done since 67, that's a long time. As for 'if Hamilton hits two more homeruns' thang, well, if my mother had a penis she'd be my father.

As for 'if Hamilton hits two more homeruns' thang, well, if my mother had a penis she'd be my father. You know what Miguel Cabrera's award for winning the triple crown is? <i>Winning the triple crown</i>. I know it's not technically an award but it's a universally recognized achievement. As with Yaz, "last player to win the triple crown" will probably be Cabrera's claim to fame for decades to come. And that would have been the case with or without the MVP award. So I don't get the need to give extra credit.

According to Bill Center of the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Padres have free agent right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka high on their wish list. Matsuzaka struggled mightily after returning from Tommy John surgery in 2012, compiling a 1-7 record, 8.28 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 11 starts. He has told the Japanese media that he likes the idea of pitching in San Diego, and a one-year incentive laden deal might be worth the risk for both sides.

He's been fantastic pitching in SoCal in the WBC, hope it works out for him.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Good for the Rays. I just can't believe Longoria signed another long-term, below market contract years before it was necessary. That man values long-term security like nobody else.

I think a lot of other players would jump at that kind of security - if it was ever offered to them. That's why you see free agents gunning for maximum guaranteed total money rather than maximum AAV. One unlucky pitch or foul ball or collision....

Great deal for Evan, the Rays, and the Tampa Bay area. Certainly he could have picked up a few more dollars if had waited to be a free agent, but he is firmly entrenched in this area I call home and loves the life style. He could definitely do a lot worse!

Theo et al just signed Scott Feldman. I felt he could have been a decent 4/5 guy for the Red Sox. Looks like he might be putting it together, had a nice K:BB last year and has played his whole career in Arlington.
Still, he got $6M + incentives.

I'm very curious to see how he turns that team around and how many mistakes he makes doing so. It will help decide who to blame for what as far as what happened around here. The Sox are in a similar situation now although with a better Major league team and a better minor league team but I'll be comparing the two going forward.

Marvin Miller has died. To me, the inability of HoF voters to give him his due while Bowie Kuhn the buffoon resides there is an epic injustice and a real tragedy. Why couldn't they do that before he died? Kuhn was Miller's foil when the latter successfully navigated the player's union to free agency and untold wealth for its members. It may be hard for those who weren't around at that time to understand, but Miller's importance to baseball and the people who play it can't be overstated. He was a giant and he created the generation of millionaires who now populate the game. That's an entire class of wealthy athletes who finally had a chance to share in the piles of money their games generate. Add: A quote from Fay Vincent, taken from this AP story on ESPN, on Miller's death: "I think he's the most important baseball figure of the last 50 years," former Commissioner Fay Vincent said. "He changed not just the sport but the business of the sport permanently, and he truly emancipated the baseball player -- and in the process all professional athletes. Prior to his time, they had few rights; at the moment, they control the games."
Anyone who cares about the game should watch the short videos that accompany the story. They encapsulate the period. Jim Bunning states the case clearly: Miller belongs in the Hall.

Before Miller and the players union most guys in the majors had off season jobs.
Players in the minors would give themselves 3 or 4 years to make it or get "a real job".
Miller should be in the hall.

Upton(Bossman Jr) to the Braves for $70-75m on a 5 year deal. Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today via Twitter via MLBTR I think that's a good deal for the Braves and for Upton. Freeman, Heyward and McCann are all left handed. He should see a lot of pitches to hit and hit a few of them out in that ballpark, and he's a good defender. Nice fit.

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal Source: #Nationals acquire Denard Span from #Twins for Alex Meyer. Possible that others are involved.
Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal #Nationals just announced deal. It is 1-for-1. Span to #Twins for Meyer.
Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal Great get for #Twins. Meyer one of #Nationals’ top pitching prospects.

Coincidentally, Denard Span is my favorite projection for the type of player that Jackie Bradley Jr. might be in the major leagues.

I like this deal for the Nats. They needed a really good defensive CF and Span is one. His bat shouldn't be a problem with the others they have. I've never been a big fan of Meyer, maybe because of him turning down the Sox.
I think this deal will help the Nats win the NL East in 2013, and maybe go further into the post season.

I like the draft from my own perspective. Because I was not looking forward to being jealous down the road of the Nats going.: 1. Strasburg 2. Zimmerman 3. Meyer 4. Giolito 5. Who ever they want, maybe Purke comes around
