Is it possible that Rubby can finish the season as our setup man or closer during the stretch run? That's what I'm hoping for. If Wilson is the last guy, we can send him up/down. Can't do that with Mortenson or Morales. Gives us no flexibility. Unfortunately, looks like Mortenson is going to get DFA'd. Not that he's all that great or anything. But, he's got to be pissed at Bailey for blowing that. Cost him some big league time. Never know when you come back.

Thankfully, he only threw 7 pitches, even though he had to warm up when he needs a day completely off. Yeah, but who pitches the bottom of this inning? Morales is going to have to. Mortensen is probably done with his Red Sox career by Wednesday.

This one looks clearly headed for a loss.

Roster moves are going to be interesting this week unless Lester has a great start tomorrow. We may have to shorten the bench to add another BP arm.

Questionable strikes, yet Gomes doesn't even swing at pitches over the plate. It's like no one wants to win this one.

Not Morales pitching. Uehara for a second inning. I do not like this.

The Pawsox were rained out, so I assume Aceves would be available Wednesday, right?

16 pitches in 2 innings for Uehara. If we take the lead here, do we send him out for the save or go with Morales (win or lose)?

It would appear that Mortensen is gone unfortunately, and it wouldn't surprise me if Middlebrooks or Iglesias are sent down for a game or 2 just to get through this week.
Would love to see Rubby get a shot. He would make a decent middle relief / long man right now potentially. Filling Mortensen's spot well.

Hell, they might bring up Aceves tomorrow (for Mortensen?) to be a BP arm, with Webster replacing him to take the start in Wednesday.

I can't see sending Iglesias down, since it leaves you without anyone able to back up second, third or short. Sending Middlebrooks down presents the same problem. The answer I see is DFAing Mortensen (tough luck fella) adding De La Torre for tomorrow, adding Aceves for Wednesday, then add Wilson on Thursday.

They also might decide to put Buck on the DL. I think we need 2 arms for the bullpen at this point.

BTW... Buchholz neck is looming over this team as well. If he needs to miss a start, they might need to add a starter for wednesday, then another for Buchholz.

I do not think you want to DL Buchholz if he is only going to pushed back by a day or miss one start. Better off playing games with the replaceable bullpen arms.

What are the odds that Mortensen is on the team tomorrow. I have to think they are very low, because I cannot see any alternative besides a DL trip for a bullpen arm.

Either someone goes on DL or we see a series of 3 moves this week, like DFA Mortensen, call up De La Torre tomorrow, Aceves/Webster Wednesday and then Wilson Thursday so we can keep him up. Maybe Uehara needs a 2 week rest.

Yeah, but who pitches the bottom of this inning? Morales is going to have to. Mortensen is probably done with his Red Sox career by Wednesday. Mortenson is basically their most rested reliever at this point. I think they need to DL Buccholz at this point and quit playing around.

If Aceves doesn't pitch in relief tomorrow, he starts Wednesday. If he goes in relief tomorrow, Webster starts Wed. Aceves is back down. Allen drills 3 Rays and starts a doneybrook. Hopefully, not till the 5th or 6th.

Unless they are certain Buchholz is going to miss a couple of starts due to injury, I do not see them DLing Buchholz, who has been their best player all year. Not to hold onto the rights of Mortensen.

What a mess. Most of the bullpen won't be available and Salty will probably need a crane to get out of bed later today.

If Big Papi is the one IBB'ed, does he still hit a home run?
