I was hoping for 5-5 ... but Bartolo Colon creeps me out, it's like looking at the pitching version of the Uncanny Valley. Guy used to be of our species ...
Tidy first inning for Workman.

Workman looks real solid so far. I haven't seen the whole game but his control looks good at least in the 2nd inning.

Workman doesn't want to go back to Pawtucket.

So at what point do they pull Workman? 120? Assuming he doesn't give up a hit I mean.

This is getting pretty sick...I want this win and I'm not being greedy. Time to get a deep fly ball for the sacrifice (that means you Brock).

Nice hit by Holt, that little slap shot.
Everyone notice the speed of the pitch before by Colon? 94mph on pitch 106? Wonder how that guy finds the "energy" to get that much heat that high a count huh.

It's about time to consider Carp as the 1B in the projected roster for 2014 instead of Middlebrooks.

Damn Coco is fast. But great defensive attempt by Pedroia.

Pedey is the total package isn't he. Is there a better guy to root for in all of baseball? I don't think so. 9 guys like him and the WS would be a pushover.

you mean keeping a rookie in at 100 pitches in his first ml start with a tying run at bat?

Forgot the game was on and just "tuned" to it on GameDay . . . in time for the HR. Still though I'm stunned at Workman's performance. Absolutely terrific!

Workman's been up in the zone all day long. I didn't want to say anything earlier considering the circumstances, but he's floated more than a few breaking balls that have just spun and missed high or fastballs that caught a little too much of the plate. It's the downside of the "bulldog mentality" or whatever.
Also: I find the Colon PED speculation to be pretty stupid. Every argument you can make applies almost identically to Ortiz, who has trimmed his strikeout rate to a career-low at soon-to-be age 38 and has been connected to PEDs in the past.

It's the downside of the "bulldog mentality" or He was. They were a lot of called strikes or balls, but eventually a batter was going to sit on a high curveball...

Combined with the fact that Workman has significant questions about him as a MLer, with a full bullpen and the AS break, you ride him til the no no is over, then go and win the game with the bullpen. edit: add this

There is a possibility that Ortiz is on something. But, that's a very poor analogy to compare him to Colon. Ortiz has never failed a MLB administered drug test. His positive test was the 2003 private one we were never supposed to find out about. That was 10 years ago. Colon failed one last year. I don't think there's anything wrong at all with suspecting Colon of something. He wasn't throwing this hard in Boston 5 years ago.

I have no problem leaving Workman in for that AB. It looked like a waist high fastball to me, just misplaced badly. Overall when he was high before it looked to me like he was on the corner, outside or inside mainly but I wasn't looking closely. Workman looks like a workhorse who can give a team innings and be healthy. If his control is decent and he is in the right situation he could be worth a lot to some team like a San diego or an Oakland. He doesn't have much swing and miss stuff but if he can keep it in the park he is of a lot of value. With all the Garza rumors going on with Theo it would seem that guys like Britton, Workman and Ranaudo could be in the discussion.
Theo will want some pitching back in return and the Redsox do have a lot of starting pitching prospects. It could happen.

Time for a real 1 st baseman. These umpires suck so bad this series. Buckner was gone too.
Blythe way Reddick sucks fluke year last year.
