I see him at .275 with 20 hrs. For context, there were just 16 MLB hitters who did this last year. Might want to dial the expectations down a bit. That's like Ty France or JT Realmuto. Yeah Chris...I was thinking more career wise in reference to JBJ batting .225...altho I did say let's check next year....some confusion I may have created there. I think Rafaela has been given a bit of short shift on his batting prowess. As to fielding comp, I believe that Rafaela's speed in the OF differentiates him. I have seen both JBJ and Rafaela about 6 times...not a lot. I did see a catch by Rafaela last year at Hadlock which was the greatest I've ever seen in person. I'm sure that it's in his 2O22 highlights on YouTube. I remember that Story was playing in the game and was laughing in amazement as he went over to talk with the then second baseman...who reputedly said 'we see that stuff all the time' from him. And wasn't JBJs range or jump questioned at some point? Suffice to say that they are both great fielders. I'm saddened that JBJ's career went south with the bat. I still remember when he was recalled to the Sox during a home stand at Fenway. For several games he was like the Babe.

Let's check back next October... That's fair, like I said I like Rafaela a lot. Think even if he only reaches his floor he's a valuable MLBer with his great fielding in CF and versatility to be a good fielding MI with some pop. Either way I'm excited to see what he can do for the ML squad. On the topic of next Sox milb guys that I have seen with potential to star with the Sox, book Bleis....even tho far away and with a lost season.

I see him at .275 with 20 hrs. He may not have the JBJ arm, but it is a strong one. Bradley was a .225 hitter lifetime. To beat that does not elevate Rafaela to hall of fame status. Feel like you're underrating JBJ or at least peak JBJ anyway. I do think Rafaela will have a higher average and probably be a 15ish HR guy. However his obp will likely always be below average. I like Rafaela and hope he can be a 2-3 fWAR type of guy. He could certainly have a year or two where he does better. It was just 1 season but JBJ peaked at 5.6 fWAR year. I think that'd be a lot to expect Rafaela to match that in his best year. Let's check back next October...

Ceddanne will prove to be a better fielding outfielder than JBJ if only because he has greater speed. I think that he will also be superior at the plate with a higher contact rate and better average. That would be one of the best players in the league so that shouldn't really be expected. I see him at .275 with 20 hrs. He may not have the JBJ arm, but it is a strong one. Some thoughts....
Casas, to me, looks like Al Capp's Li'l Abner in profile.... Hitting like that too.
Is Duran too jacked? With all that muscle one would expect a 35 home run guy. Fast, improving fielder approaching adequate, but the ball doesn't jump off his bat like I might expect....more of a doubles guy.

Any news on Marcelo? Not in the lineup Thursday or last night. Hitting now 189. Something not right. He may be getting a break. I saw that he had struck out 14 times in 26 at bats recently.

Steveofbradenton and I watched Rafaela in what was the GCL and he stood out all around. We mentioned that here. I saw him last season in Portland with the same impression. I was a bit surprised by some comments here that implied his offensive capabilities might lag. I think that he is going to be a stud all around. I don't know about him being 5'9" but 195? ...more like 175.

Zanetello and Teel out after 5 innings. 0-2 games for both. I wonder if Teel will get promoted once he's built up to a full game. My thoughts exactly!🤔. BTW, Mayer is 11-18... in that Eleven strikeouts in his last 18 ABs. He is only 20 so will recover. But, should he be in Greenville?

Not having Pivetta to use today was tough. Get another pitcher in the building. Also tough to win series when Devers and Yoshida don’t show up at the plate I think that Yoshida needs to sit a couple of games. He is out of whack (literally and figuratively). Previous time outs have had him coming back strongly. Sox are not a good hitting team on the road.

When do we get a bit concerned with Mayer?Tonight he was O-4 with 4 strikeouts, golden sombrero...He is at .200 BA. AA is obviously a struggle so far. I confess that as the #6? rated prospect in baseball, I expected that results would be better at this point. What are his issues? My advice is that whenever anything about Mayer's current performance concerns you, do the following; 1. Turn on the Sox and watch Duran and Casas play like you once hoped they would. 2. Stop worrying about Mayer, he will be just fine too Different people progress at differing speeds clearly. Mayer is a work in progress. I was starting to pay closer attention to him based on his national ranking and hoping he would be blossoming. I hope the Casas and Duran performances are real. Those plus Yoshida and Turner have energized the offense of late And against pretty good pitching. Had they not, we would be sellers.

I'll be in southern Maine beginning next week so I will be sure to catch a few games. If I have any relevant observations, I'll pass those along.

Chris does such a great job tracking the picks, signings and dollars distributed. I'd love to see a final rundown. Just want to make really clear that I am one of many people who work for the site, and that I'm not even the primary person who does the above. Mike's the primary guy on a lot of this. Also the draft history page is updated so go check that out if you want said rundown. Ok Chris thanks. Credit where credit is due, I see that it is Mike that always does this kind of thing. My bad. My recollection was that he had done a composite post draft in prior years on this page. I just checked out the draft history page and the info is indeed there.

Well, just went from watching on my phone to my TV - Jacques is clearly no Bernardino. ... I know Bernardino. Bernardino is a friend of mine...and he's no Bernardino! (with liberties)...

But Chris Sale will be back by August! He's 39 but he has the arm of a 34 year-old. Who’s donating him the arm? By then science will be able to graft one...

Jay Scrubb gets a 2-way deal Scrubb is 'seasoned'. He surely exhibited offensive capacity. He has good quickness, can drive to the hoop and has range while exhibiting a smooth stroke. I'm no judge of course, but I wondered if, being a lefty, he could effectively go to his right. I can see him being a terror in the G league and hopefully a help to us.

Just read a report that he didn't create for himself. I've noticed that stand out in the prior two games...just can't seem to clear and drive to the hoop. He’s pretty slow with his first step but it’s not anything that can’t get worked on. He showed some solid body control when being contested in the paint. Shot is very hit or miss. Plays very hard on both ends and defensively I was impressed with his ability to stay with smaller guards. He picked a couple pockets too IMO his potential is that of a good role player. If he improves his 3 pt shot to solid he’ll play in the league for a decade. With his defense he has a higher floor than what most people his age picked in the same spot have. He’s never going to be a primary scoring option though and frankly I wouldn’t expect him to be as a 2nd round pick The first slow step! Thanks for bringing that up. I had seen it too. Will he make the club or get a 2 way?

I didn't stay up but noticed from the stats that neither team shot well...around 40%. Was this the result of tenacious defense or other in your opinion? I did see that Walsh hit a couple of 3s...2-7 among his 25 points. It's great to beat the Lakers anytime. From what I'm reading, they will be damn formidable this season. Please LeBron, finally get old. He had some really good on-ball moments defensively. Seemed to finish at the rim pretty well Just read a report that he didn't create for himself.
